We pride ourselves in being able to assist you in holding a memorable event. Originally part of Duntroon Estate, Mugga-Mugga is steeped in history of an early Canberra and a time gone by. Situated in the centre of Canberra, close to the city centre; Civic, Kingston and Manuka, this historical rural property offers a memorable and enjoyable experience for your personal or corporate event. To make an enquiry or a booking, please contact our venue hire coordinator on ph: or lanyon.homestead@act.gov.au. The Environmental Education Centre is available for hire at Mugga-Mugga for private use, birthday parties, wedding receptions and ceremonies, corporate functions, launches, conferences, training workshops and other events. The Environmental Education Centre has a large veranda wrapping around two side of the building with roll down screens to protect your guests for wind and rain. The views of Canberra from this area in both the day and evening are spectacular. The gardens and grounds of Mugga-Mugga Cottage are available for wedding photography. Various sections of the property are also available for wedding ceremonies and receptions. Please note that Mugga-Mugga is not available for eighteenth or twenty first birthday parties, although you may wish to seek approval from the Assistant Director of ACT Historic Places. 2 VENUE HIRE CHARGES Venue Hire fees do not include entry to the house museum; however house museum entry and guided tour packages can be arranged with the venue hire coordinator. Community / Non-Profit Groups: $ per day Monday- Friday 8.30am- 9.30pm Saturday-Sunday 10am-10.30pm Commercial / Government Agencies: $ per day Monday- Friday 8.30am- 9.30pm Saturday-Sunday 10am-10.30pm Photography: $ per session o For events booked at Mugga-Mugga, there are no additional charges for your photography session. o All photography sessions must not impede access or use of the site for any other visitors. o Internal photography is not permitted without specific approval from the Director of ACT Historic Places. o Professional photography for corporate use is quoted on individual basis. Videography / Filming: $ per session o For events booked at Mugga-Mugga, there are no additional charges for your videography session. o All videography sessions must not impede access or use of the site for any other visitors. o Internal videography is not permitted without specific approval from the Director of ACT Historic Places. o Professional videography for corporate use is quoted on individual basis. Additional Fees These fees are charged should the hirer fail to abide by the conditions of the hire, and are charged as an additional fee to the venue hire charges. o Late arrival fee (after 4.30pm): $ o Cleaning Fee: $ o Security Fee (chargeable should the internal alarm system be tampered with): $ o Damage to equipment or venue: As per professional damage assessment. o Late leaving fee: $ o Excess noise will result in closure of your event. Payments and Deposits o Tentative bookings will be held for 30 days. o To confirm a booking the completed, signed Booking Agreement form must be submitted, a copy of the Certificate of Currency for Public Liability Insurance of $20 million (if applicable) and together with 50% deposit paid must be organised at least 1 month in advance. o Final payments are due 14 days prior to the event. If this final amount is not paid within 2 weeks, the event will be cancelled and the deposit not refunded. o Invoices can be prepared upon request and payment methods include: Credit card, Cheque/money order, cash and invoicing for corporate and government venue hire. 2
3 VENUE INFORMATION FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTRE Mugga-Mugga is a no smoking site. There are no catering services at Mugga-Mugga. Do not light any fires except in the wood stove in the Environmental Education Centre.The alarm systems have a direct link to the Fyshwick Fire Station, call outs will result in fines to the Hirer from the ACT Fire Brigade Use of the wood stove in the Environmental Education Centre is by prior arrangement. No wood is to be added to the fire 1.5 hours before the end of your event. For brief bookings please use heaters provided. Paddocks A speed limit of 20km/hour is in effect at Mugga-Mugga. No driving is permitted in the paddocks. The paddocks are grazing land and have historical and biological significance. Park at the Environmental Education Centre and only drive on the gravel road. Horses are agisted in the paddocks surrounding Mugga-Mugga Cottage and the Environmental Education Centre. All cars on site must be parked within the parking area adjacent to the Environmental Education Centre. Any injury to the horses will result in liability to the hirer. Do not play with, feed or attempt to ride the horses. These are privately owned. Any injury to the horses will result in liability to the Hirer. House Museum Access to the historic cottage is not granted unless prior arrangement has been made with the Venue Hire Coordinator. 3
4 EQUIPMENT HIRE Equipment Hire Price Chart Lectern $20.00 BBQ $30.00 Security Fee: $ Applied for late departures and out of approved hours venue hire. Whiteboard, markers eraser: Tables (trestle): Chairs: Table cloths: Crockery, cutlery and glassware: Any additional equipment beyond that described above must be hired independently by the hirer. Please advise the venue hire coordinator of any additional equipment hired. Note, any equipment hired independently is not covered by insurance, and the hirer will be liable for any loss, damage or theft to equipment, and for damage to the site resulting from additional equipment being delivered, collected or erected. Electrical access There are electrical restrictions at the Mugga-Mugga Environmental Education Centre. Please discuss requirements with the venue hire coordinator, including any appliances you wish to use and staff will advise on electrical capacity. Failure to do so may result in loss of all electricity on the day of your event and possible electrical repair fees. Location Additional available equipment for the Environmental Education Centre is included on the Inventory List. Hired equipment will be set-up for you by the venue hire coordinator or a designated staff member. A staff member will provide an on-site orientation of where equipment is located prior to your event. The BBQ is located in the shed. There is a rubber mat that is to be placed under the BBQ when in use to minimise fat spillage. You should not need to change the gas bottle. Water / Taps Water for drinking and washing purposes can be obtained from: o Outside tap: located to the right of the main entrance door. To turn this tap on, push the on button on the timer. If water does not come out, you will need to turn the tap as well. o Kitchen: Tap and sink o Bathrooms: Basins are located in each bathroom. Toilets Mugga-Mugga has one male, one female and one disabled toilet. Toilet paper, hand towels and soap will be supplied for use at your event. 4
5 CONDITIONS AND GENERAL VENUE HIRE INFORMATION Bookings, payment and cancellation Tentative bookings will be held for 30 days only. To secure the tentative booking date payment of deposit must be received in 30 days of initial enquiry. Full payment is to be paid within 14 days of the of the function date. Please note that Lanyon requires written notice of any cancellation or postponement. In the event that your booking is cancelled or moved, the following conditions will apply: o 90 days or more: Your full deposit will be refunded or transferred to a new date provided the venue is resold. o days: 50% of your deposit will be refunded provided the venue is resold. o Less than 30 days: The full deposit will be forfeited. o Less than 14 days: All payments made will be forfeited, credits or transfer payments for future bookings can be arranged Setting up On the day of your function you will be met by a staff member at the Mugga-Mugga Environmental Education Centre. Set up is the responsibility of the hirer. Packing-up A same staff member will return to lock-up the Environmental Education Centre at the close of your event. The Centre should be left how it was found. A $ cleaning fee will be charged for professional cleaning services. Please take all rubbish with you. No rubbish is to be left behind at Mugga-Mugga. There are some plastic bags in the drawer beside the kitchen sink if you need them. Any damage to equipment or the premises must be reported and paid for. The Hirer will be invoiced for the full amount after a damage assessment is completed. Available cleaning tools and cleaning products in the kitchen: o Broom o Dustpan o Dishwashing detergent, cloths and rubber gloves are located under the sink in the kitchen. o Tea towels are in the drawer beside the kitchen sink. Please leave dirty linen in the kitchen on the bench for washing. Available cleaning tools and cleaning products in the female toilet cupboard: o Mop and bucket 5
6 PACK UP CHECK LIST Make sure the urn is unplugged, and emptied. Make sure any other electrical appliances (except the microwave and fridge) are turned off. Make sure all taps are turned off Close the kitchen door Make sure all the windows are closed with the wooden poles in place to prevent them from being opened from the outside. Make sure all the doors (interior and exterior) are locked, excluding toilet doors [these should be closed but not locked]. Make sure the gas bottle on the BBQ is turned off and the BBQ cleaned an put away Allow the fire it to burn itself out safely (if applicable) - no wood to be added 1.5 hours prior to end of event. Narrabundah Lane comes off Mugga Lane at the Hindmarsh Drive End of Mugga Lane. The entrance to Mugga-Mugga is a farm gate which is directly across the road from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). Fire Extinguisher There are two fire extinguishers; one for electrical fires located next to the front door and one for wood fires located next to the wood stove. There is a fire blanket in the kitchen above the sink.
