Stopped or reduced debt collection actions against 19 clients, avoiding $78,998 in claims and recovering $1,711 in damages. Averted 1 repossession. Avoided deficiency judgments for 4 clients, avoiding $21,329 in claims. Quashed 43 garnishments, liens, or levies, returning $13,479 to the clients. Overcame illegal sales contract for 1 client, recovering $5 in damages. Enforced warranty for 4 clients, recovering $3,849. Overcame fraudulent sales practice for 1 client, recovering $1,276. Provided assistance with tax problem for 1 client. Unsuccessfully represented 2 clients in consumer matters. Assisted 12 clients with consumer matters outside of litigation, recovering $46,324 and avoiding $6,95 in liability. Provided advice and counsel to 176 clients on debtor and consumer issues. Family-Related Issues Obtained adoptions for 1 child. Obtained child custody orders for 43 clients. Preserved child visitation rights for 3 clients. Obtained divorces or annulments for 364 clients, recovering $25,959 in lump sum benefits and avoiding $42,5 in debts, and obtaining 78 name changes. Obtained Separation Agreements for 6 clients. Obtained $12,414 in equitable distribution of marital property for 2 clients. Obtained guardianships/conservatorships for 22 incapacitated adults. Advised 7 other clients on guardianship issues. Established paternity for 2 children. Obtained court protection for 26 victims of domestic violence, including 2 elderly victims. Obtained, preserved, or increased child support for 14 clients worth $1,98 monthly plus lump sum recoveries of $7,779. Obtained reductions in child support obligations for 2 clients. Obtained, preserved, or increased spousal support for another 6 clients, of $22,826 in lump sum and $2,47 in monthly support. Acted as Guardian ad Litem for 17 children. Assisted 16 clients with family matters outside of litigation. Provided advice and counsel to 47 other clients on family-related issues.
3 Provided non-litigation advocacy to 5 clients. Obtained other benefits in family law cases for 16 clients, recovering $1,85 in lump sum. Unsuccessfully represented 18 clients in family law proceedings. Access to Health Care Issues Obtained, preserved, or increased Medicaid benefits for 11 clients, obtaining $37,765 in lump sum and $6,176 in monthly financial benefits. Provided Medicaid or long-term care planning to 2 clients. Prevented denial of rights to 7 nursing home residents, avoiding $6, in lump sum liability and $12, in monthly billings. Advised 22 clients on health care issues. Assisted 4 clients with health care matters outside of litigation. Housing Issues Prevented evictions for 33 families, successfully defeating $7,56 in claims for charges and retaining $4,911 in monthly rental subsidies. Delayed eviction for 27 families, while successfully defending against $16,556 in charges. Avoided foreclosures for 3 clients. Prevented the denial of 3 public housing tenants rights, avoiding $1,71 in liability. Avoided over $16,156 in illegal charges imposed by landlords on another 1 families while recovering $525 for our clients. Enforced rights to decent, habitable housing for 4 clients, recovering $1,. Enforced tenants rights under their lease for 1 client, recovering $3,99. Obtained access to housing for 1 client. Provided non-litigation advocacy on behalf of 4 households in housing-related issues, recovering $2,86 and avoiding $12,3 in liability. Provided counsel and advice to 148 other clients with housing-related problems. Obtained other housing benefit for 7 clients, avoiding $9,836 in liability. Unsuccessfully represented 2 clients in housing disputes. Other Public Benefit Issues Obtained SSI and Social Security disability benefits for 6 clients, securing $17,238 in lump sum benefits and $1,152 in monthly benefits. Obtained, preserved, or increased unemployment compensation benefits for 4 clients, with accrued benefits of $17,238 and monthly benefits of $1,152. Provided non-litigation advocacy on behalf of 8 households in benefit-related issues, avoiding liability for $3,166. Provided counsel and advice to 17 other clients with public benefit issues, helping to recover $2,. Unsuccessfully represented 1 client in public benefits proceedings.
4 Miscellaneous Matters Advised 1 client regarding education issues. Secured appropriate special education services for 1 client. Avoided suspension for 1 client. Obtained back wages of $1,41 for 1 client. Advised 5 clients and provided another client non-litigation advocacy in employment matters. Advised 5 clients on individual rights issues and provided another immigrant with nonlitigation advocacy services. Unsuccessfully represented a client on a disability-related matter. Assisted 91 homeless persons obtain their birth certificates. Advised 6 clients on individual rights issues. Unsuccessfully represented 1 client in an individual rights matter. Assisted 2 non-profit groups with governance issues. Overcame driver s license restriction for 1 client. Drafted wills for 185 clients. Drafted 188 living wills, powers of attorney, or health care proxy documents. Advised 17 clients on wills and estates problems. Assisted 1 client in collecting a judgment. Summary In the 681 cases involving on-going representation, we fully achieved our clients goals in 88% of the cases, and partially achieved them in another 6%. Overall, we achieved: 2262 outcomes for 254 clients that benefited 5,12 low-income people, including affirmative lump sum recoveries of $32,14; affirmative monthly recoveries of $23,12; avoidance of $1,29,769 in lump sum debts or damages; and avoidance of $19,18 in monthly obligations.
