6 U.S. Retirement Market Data, Second Quarter 2011 Retirement assets were $18.2 trillion at the end of June 2011 and accounted for 37% of all household financial assets in the United States. IRA assets totaled $4.9 trillion at the end of June 2011, up 0.7% from the end of March Defined contribution (DC) plan assets increased 0.8% in the second quarter to $4.7 trillion at quarter-end. 401(k) plan assets were $3.2 trillion at the end of 2011:Q2.
