The figure represents a decrease of 8,500 jobs over the month and a decrease of 1,900 jobs over the year. Private sector employment was estimated at 1,651,900, a decrease of 8,100 jobs over the month but a gain of 900 jobs over the year. Over the month the largest gain was seen in trade, transportation, and utilities sector which added 1,500 jobs. The transportation, warehousing and utilities subsector added 900 jobs while wholesale trade rose by 700 jobs. Education and health services added 1,000 jobs over the month. The health care and social assistance subsector is at a series high for employment of 267,800. Professional and business services added 700 jobs and has added jobs over the month in six of the last seven months. Leisure and hospitality added 500 jobs as the accommodation and food services subsector increased by 1,400 jobs. Mining and logging showed a slight increase of 200 jobs, The largest decline over the month was seen in the construction sector which fell by 6,700 jobs. This is the sector s largest over-the month loss since September Manufacturing declined by 2,500, as both the nondurable goods and the durable goods subsectors each lost over 1,000 jobs. Other services dropped by 2,000 jobs, its first decline in since Financial activities lost 600 jobs over the month, its largest decline since September Government showed 400 fewer jobs this month, with the local government subsector also declining by 400 jobs. Information decreased by 200 jobs. Over the year the largest gain was seen in the construction sector which added 7,400 jobs. Construction has seen over-the-year gains for six consecutive months. The education and health services sector rose by 6,800 jobs over the year, with the health care and social assistance subsector gaining 4,900 jobs. Education and health services has added jobs over the year every month beginning in October Professional and business services added 4,100 jobs as the administrative and support and waste management and remediation subsector added 7,700 jobs. Other services added 100 jobs for its sixth straight over-the-year increase. The largest decline over the year was seen in the mining and logging sector which fell by 5,100 jobs. The series has lost jobs over the year for 27 straight months. Trade, transportation, and utilities lost 4,400 jobs for its 17th straight decline over the year. Both the retail trade and the transportation, warehousing, and utilities subsectors lost 2,300 jobs over the year. Manufacturing fell by 3,400 jobs, its 25th straight over-the-year loss, as the durable goods manufacturing subsector declined by 5,100 jobs. Government fell by 2,800 jobs with local government losing 3,300 jobs. Leisure and hospitality showed 2,100 fewer jobs than last year, its fourth consecutive over-the-year loss. Information decreased by 1,900 jobs for its 14th consecutive over-the-year loss.. The financial activities sector showed a decrease of 600 jobs and has lost jobs over the year for 21 straight months. The preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Louisiana decreased to 5.7 percent from the February rate of 5.8 percent. The national unemployment rate for decreased to 4.5 percent from the February rate of 4.7 percent. Total unemployment in the state for was 120,235. 3 3 State and Area Employment STATEWIDE Louisiana s total nonfarm not seasonally adjusted employment was es mated at 1,969,800 for. The es mate represents a loss of 300 jobs over the month and a decrease of 3,800 jobs from The es mate marks over-the-year decreases in 18 of the last 19 months. The total private employment figure was es mated at 1,645,100 in. Private sector employment showed an over-themonth increase of 1,000 jobs but a loss of 600 jobs from This month makes over-the-year losses in 16 of the last 17 months. Over the month the largest increase was seen in the leisure and hospitality sector which added 2,900 jobs. The food services and drinking places subsector added 3,000 jobs. Trade transporta on and u li es added 1,800 jobs. The wholesale trade subsector and the retail trade subsector gained 600 and 800 jobs respec vely. The trade transporta on and u li es sector has seen an over-the-month increase for every year since The educa on and health services super sector rose by 1,400 jobs. The educa on and health services super sector hasn t seen an over the month loss in since The educa on sector and the health care and social services sectors added 400 and 1,000 jobs respec vely. The professional and business services sector showed the next largest over-the-month increase adding 1,300 jobs. The administra ve and support services subsector increased by 2,300 jobs. The mining and logging sector increased by 300 jobs pos ng the first back to back over the month gains since August of Informa on showed no change in employment over the month. The largest over- themonth decrease was seen in the construc on sector which lost 2,900 jobs. The loss is largely a ributable to a drop of 2,400 jobs in the heavy and civil engineering construc on subsector. This is the second over-the-month loss in the construc on sector in the last seven months. Manufacturing decreased by 1,600 jobs. The manufacturing subsectors of durable goods and non-durable goods manufacturing lost 1,200 and 400 jobs respec vely. This is the first over-the-month loss in the manufacturing sector a er three consecu ve months of gains. Other services employment dropped by 1,400 - largely due to a decrease of 1,100 jobs in the repair and maintenance services subsector. The government sector employment declined by 1,300 jobs. Local government saw a drop of 700 jobs over the month and state government decreased by 500. Financial ac vi es sector employment decreased by 800 jobs. This was driven by a loss of 900 jobs in the finance and insurance subsector. The largest over-the-month gain was seen in the educa on and health services super sector which increased by 7,600 jobs. This increase was led by a gain of 5,000 jobs in the health care and social assistance sector. Both the hospitals and nursing and residen al care facili es subsectors showed gains of 1,400 jobs while the offices of physicians subsector showed an increase of 1,100 jobs as well. Construc on had the second largest over-the-month gain in employment adding 7,300 jobs. The heavy and civil engineering construc on subsector had a gain of 1,800 jobs over the year despite a large over- the-month loss. The professional and business services sector showed an increase of 3,200 jobs. This was due in large part to an increase of jobs in the administra ve and support services subsector. Other services sector employment saw no net change over the year. The largest decrease in over-the-year employment was seen in the mining and logging sector which was down 5,400 jobs. The support ac vi es for mining subsector accounted for 3,800 of those jobs lost. The manufacturing sector was down 3,900 jobs. The nondurable goods manufacturing subsector was up 1,200 jobs while the durable goods manufacturing subsector was down 5,100 jobs. The trade, transporta on and u li es sector also declined by 3,900 jobs. The retail trade subsector lost 1,600 jobs while the transporta on and warehousing subsector lost 2,300 jobs. The leisure and hospitality sector lost 3,300 jobs. The arts, entertainment and recrea on subsector lost 1,700 jobs while the accommoda on and food services subsector lost 1,600 jobs. The government subsector was down 3,200 jobs. This was led by a decrease in local government employment of 3,300 jobs while state government employment declined by 500 jobs. The informa on sector saw a decrease of 1,800 jobs over the year. This was the 14 th consecu ve over the year loss in the informa on sector. The financial ac vi es sector showed a loss of 400 jobs over the year. ALEXANDRIA Total nonfarm employment for the Alexandria MSA was es mated at 62,900 for. This es mate shows a loss of 100 jobs over the month and a loss of 600 jobs over the year. The MSA has dropped jobs over the year for eight consecu ve months. Trade, transporta on, and u li es lost 100 jobs over the month and 300 jobs over the year. BATON ROUGE Total nonfarm employment for the Baton Rouge MSA was es mated at 408,800 for. The es mate shows a gain of 500 jobs over the month and an increase of 2,600 jobs over the year. Over the month, professional and business services added 800 jobs, while both the government sector and the trade, transporta on and u li es sector rose by 300. Over the year, professional and business services added 2,000 jobs while construc on increased by 1,500 jobs. Educa on and health services rose by 1,200 jobs over the year. The informa on sector lost 900 jobs over the year and the government sector declined by 800.

4 4 HAMMOND The Hammond MSA total nonfarm employment was es mated at 45,100 for. This figure shows a gain of 300 jobs over the month and a gain of 1,000 jobs over the year. Goods producing employment had no change over the month or over the year. Service providing employment gained 300 jobs over the month and 1,000 jobs over the year. HOUMA Total nonfarm employment in the Houma MSA was es mated at 85,100 for. This shows a loss of 600 jobs over the month and a decline of 5,200 jobs over the year. Trade, transporta on, and u li es lost 300 jobs over the month and 3,000 jobs over the year. Mining and logging lost 700 jobs over the year, its 26 th consecu ve month with an over-the-year loss. LAFAYETTE Total nonfarm employment for the Lafaye e MSA was es mated at 198,600 for. This shows no change over the month but a loss of 6,500 jobs over the year. The MSA has lost jobs over the year for 26 consecu ve months. Over the month, leisure and hospitality gained 300 jobs but lost 300 over the year. Mining and logging gained 100 jobs over the month but lost 2,200 jobs over the year - its 27 th consecu ve month with an over-the-year loss. Over the year, professional and business services lost 1,000 jobs, its 25 th consecu ve loss. Manufacturing lost 1,000 jobs from last, its 29 th straight month with an over-the-year decline. Trade, transporta on and u li es dropped 1,400 jobs over the year. LAKE CHARLES Total nonfarm employment for the Lake Charles MSA was es mated at 111,700 for. This shows a gain of 500 jobs over the month and a gain of 4,900 jobs over the year. It is the 69 th consecu ve month with an over-the-year increase. The construc on sector showed no change over the month but added 4,000 jobs over the year. This is the 18 th consecu ve month with an over-the-year increase. Trade, transporta on, and u li es added 200 jobs over the month and 500 over the year. MONROE Total nonfarm employment for the Monroe MSA was es mated at 79,300 for. This shows no change over the month but an increase of 100 jobs over the year. Over the month, trade, transporta on and u li es added 200 jobs while leisure and hospitality increased by 100 jobs. Professional and business services added 300 jobs over the year while government fell by 400 jobs. NEW ORLEANS Total nonfarm employment for the New Orleans MSA was es mated at 575,000 for. This shows a gain of 900 jobs over the month and 1,000 jobs over the year. Over the month, health care and social assistance added 1,300 jobs, while both construc on and professional and business services added 700 and 600 jobs, respec vely. Financial ac vi es declined by 600 jobs over the month while leisure and hospitality lost 100 jobs. Over the year, the healthcare and social assistance subsector gained 2,700 jobs while construc on and the educa on services subsector both increased by 1,200 jobs. The government sector lost 3,100 jobs over the year while leisure and hospitality lost 1,100 jobs. The informa on sector lost 1,000 jobs over the year while the mining and logging sector lost 700 jobs. SHREVEPORT Total nonfarm employment for the Shreveport MSA was es mated at 179,200 for. This shows a loss of 100 jobs over the month and a loss of 3,100 jobs over the year. This is the 23 rd consecu ve month with an over-the-year loss. Both the trade, transporta on and u li es sector and the leisure and hospitality sector gained 300 jobs over the month. The professional and business services sector lost 400 jobs over the month while the government sector declined by 300 jobs.
