4 TIME USE IN OECD COUNTRIES Time use categories Paid work Unpaid work Personal care Leisure Other Full-time/part-time jobs, unpaid work in family business/farm, breaks in the workplace, looking for work, education, and homework Routine household work, caring for children and other (non-) family members, volunteering, shopping Sleeping, eating and drinking, and other medical and personal services (e.g. visit to the doctor) Hobbies, watching television, computer use, sports, socialising with friends and family, attending cultural events Religious activities and civic obligations

15 CONCLUSIONS Older adults (65+) spend about the same time to unpaid work as the working-age population, But the type of unpaid activities changes: they spend more time to routine housework and volunteering, and less time to caring for household members Older adults more often engage in volunteering, but those who volunteer devote slightly less time to it Women do more unpaid work than men in all countries, The gender gap remains after age 65, but decreases thanks to greater involvement of men in unpaid work
