4 GEOGRAPHY AND ENVIRONMENT NCMC Cabinet secretary SH.P.K Sinha chaired the meeting Cabinet Secretary heads the NCMC. The NCMC gives direction to the Crisis Management Group as deemed necessary. The Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs is responsible for ensuring that all developments are brought to the notice of the NCMC promptly. The NCMC can give directions to any Ministry/Department/Organization for specific action needed for meeting the crisis situation.

8 GEOGRAPHY AND ENVIRONMENT Promotion of Zero Budget Natural Farming NITI Aayog held a meeting on to discuss the promotion of Zero budget Natural Farming. Government of India has been promoting organic farming in the country through the dedicated schemes of Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) since and also through Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY)

9 GEOGRAPHY AND ENVIRONMENT ZBNF is set of natural farming methods where cost of growing and harvesting plants is zero. It is a farming practice that believes in natural growth of crops without adding any fertilizers and pesticides or any other foreign elements. It is different from organic farming. Uses biological pesticides instead of chemicalbased fertilizers.

10 GEOGRAPHY AND ENVIRONMENT ZBNF brings improvements in yield, soil conservation, seed diversity, quality of produce, household food autonomy, income, and health. Farmers use earthworms, cow dung, urine, plants, human excreta and such biological fertilizers for crop protection. Intercropping and Contour Bunds are some of the techniques of ZBNF. It reduces farmers investment. It also protects the soil from degradation

12 PKVY PARAMPARAGAT KRISHI VIKAS YOJANA PKVY aims at supporting and promoting organic farming, in turn resulting in improvement of soil health. It is a centrally sponsored scheme. The objective is to produce agricultural products free from chemicals and pesticides residues by adopting eco- friendly, low- cost technologies.

13 PKVY Funding pattern under the scheme is in the ratio of 60:40 by the Central and State Governments respectively. In case of North Eastern and Himalayan States, Central Assistance is provided in the ratio of 90:10 (Centre: State) and for Union Territories, the assistance is 100%.

15 RASHRIYA KRISHI VIKAS YOJANA To provide the States and Territories of India with the autonomy to draw up plans for increased public investment to increase the productivity of Agriculture and its allied sectors and eventually maximize the returns of farmers.

16 POLITY AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS 1) The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated the One District One Product Summit in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. OBJECTIVE-to promote products indigenous to every district of U.P. 1 product indigenous to every district would be showcased at the three-day UP Diwas event.

19 Villagers, whose kutcha houses have been destroyed in the devastating floods, would be provided Pradhan MantriAwasYojana-Gramin houses on priority irrespective of their priority in the Permanent Wait List of PMAY-G

20 Prime Minister s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) A fund to provide support for people affected by natural and man made disasters. The fund is also allotted to the people for treatment like cancer, kidney transplantation, heart surgery etc. The fund was first consolidated during the time of the first prime minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru. 21 Pradhan Mantri GRAMIN Awas Yojana (PMAY- G) PMGAY Launched2017 in West Bengal The broad purpose of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to some of the weakest sections of society for them to upgrade or construct a house of respectable quality for their personal living. [6] The vision of the government is to replace all temporary (kutchcha) houses from Indian villages.

22 Pradhan Mantri GRAMIN Awas Yojana (PMAY- G) The funds are allocated to the states based on 75% weightage of rural housing shortage and 25% weightage of poverty ratio. The housing shortage is based on the 2001 Census. A software called "AWAAS Soft" was launched in July 2010 to assist in improved administration of this scheme

24 POLITY AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS 3) 10th BRICS summit The 2018 BRICS summit is the tenth annual BRICS summit, an international relations conference attended by the heads of state or heads of government of the five member states Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The summit was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, the second time the South Africa has hosted the summit after the 2013 summit. This year s theme 'BRICS in Africa'.

26 ECONOMY New Pension Scheme (NPS) Government has made a conscious move to shift from the defined benefit Pension Scheme to defined contribution pension scheme i.e. NPS, due to rising and unsustainable pension bill.

27 New Pension Scheme (NPS) Voluntary defined contribution pension system administered and regulated by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority(PFRDA). To stop defined benefit pensions for all its employees who joined after 1 January Initially designed for government employees only, it was opened up for all citizens of India in NPS is an attempt by the government to create a pensioned society in India..

29 2)Boost to Rural Road connectivity= Cabinet approves continuation of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana beyond 12th Five Year Plan period. Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) was launched on 25" December.

30 The programme envisages connecting all unconnected habitations with a population of 500 persons (as per 2001 Census) and above in plain areas.
