One day to make up so far. This day missed and all other days missed will be added to the end of the year. With that being said, we will do our best with our daily bus routes. Please do what you can to clean out your roads and driveways so we can pick up your kids. Our bus drivers do the best they can and will make calls ahead of time for adjustments to schedules or pick-up procedures. Thanks for your corporation and understanding. The end of January and the first part of February are great months to track the legislative issues being debated in Pierre. I have been mainly focused on the bills that would affect schools. Education is a big player throughout the legislative session in Pierre. Listed below is a good web site to find information you may need for this year s legislative session. January is a very important month for grading purposes. Each student received his or her second quarter grade, semester test grade, and/or first semester grades. Grades 9-12 also were presented their transcripts. Please ask/take some time and go over these important documents with your child. If you have any questions please call the school at (7-12) or (k-6). If you would like to print out your own report card and transcript from home, here is the web address: You will need to know your username and password, and then click on reports; you will now be able to choose what document you want to print. Check our school calendar for dates to attend local, district, region, and state events. Kids First, Tim Casper

We made it through the first week back with partial days and only one missed day of school. According to the weather report, we should be warming up and students should be back outside playing. We are into our third quarter. Students are busy learning fractions, division, patterns, triple digit addition, and counting to 100. For reading they have been busy with comparing and contrasting, main idea, inference, and generalization. Guest day has been a wonderful experience this year. Third grade presented a play and guests were treated to lunch. Second grade will have guest lunch on February 12 th, so mark your calendars! Please remember that students below grade five are not to be at athletic events unless a parent or guardian is present. Sincerely, Pre K-6 Principal/Title 1 Coord/SpEd Director

12 Financial Aid Planning Program For seniors and their parents Tuesday, February 3, :00 PM School Library (Juniors and their parents are invited for a preview of what is to come for their senior year) Learn about financing college and technical school through student loans, grants and work-study programs. If you are interested in receiving financial aid, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You may do this by accessing "FAFSA on the Web" at If you plan to complete the application on the internet, both the student and one parent will need a PIN number (electronic signature). Apply for that number at Remember to complete your 2014 U.S. Income Tax returns as soon as possible. These are the figures used in applying for federal aid. If this time doesn't work for you, please call me and set up an appointment to visit about financial aid. Thank you, Cathy Kazmerzak Nelson School Counselor Kindergarten Newsletter Kindergarten welcomed Mrs. Miklos, a student teacher to our room on January 12. She will be with us for 12 weeks and we hope she enjoys being in our room as much as we do. We started to take home our Book in a Bag reading books. We are so proud that we can take home story books that we can read to our parents. In math, we have been busy doing addition or as we sometimes call it, putting together numbers and subtraction or taking apart numbers. We are looking forward to our 100 th Day of School, which will be coming up very soon. We will be doing many activities featuring the number 100 all day long, including dressing up as if we were 100 years old.
