1 CHAPTER 12 PERCENTAGE The word percent is a short form of latin word percentum meaning out of one hundred. 3 UNIT 13 PROFIT & LOSS Cost Price (C.P.) is the price at which a shopkeeper buys articles from a wholesaler. Selling Price (S.P.) is the price at which a shopkeeper sells articles to his customer. PROFIT OR LOSS If SP> CP, the shopkeeper earns a profit. If SP<CP, the shopkeeper suffers a loss. Profit = SP - CP Loss = CP - SP Example 1 Anant bought a table for Rs. 740 and paid Rs.150 as transportation charges. He sold it for Rs Did he earn a profit or loss? 4 Example 2 Shambhavi bought a statue for Rs.1500.On the way home,the statue got slightly damaged. She sold it for Rs.1400.Did she earn a profit or suffer a loss? Solution C.P of statue = Rs.1500 S.P of statue = Rs.1400 CP>SP, so there is a loss. Solution CP of the camera = Rs.1800 Profit = Rs. 200 SP of the camera = CP + profit = = Rs Ans. 6 UNIT 14 BILLS Whenever we buy something, the shopkeeper gives us a statement of the total amount due to be paid. This statement is called bill. PREPARING A BILL Example Mrs Roy went to SHIVAM hardware store & bought the following items : 3 buckets of yellow paint at Rs 425 per bucket. 4 buckets of white paint at Rs 270 per bucket. 2 paint brushes at Rs 175 per brush. 2 door locks at Rs 350 per lock. 7 CHAPTER-20 LINES AND ANGLES Point: A point is represented by a small dot made by sharp pencil. It is named by a capital letter of the English alphabet. Line: It has no end points and can be extended indefinitely in both directions. It has no definite length. Line Segment: A part of a line is called a line segment. It has a fixed length. Ray : A part of line which extends indefinitely in only one direction is called a ray. It has no definite length. INTERSECTING, PARALLEL AND PERPEDICULAR LINES Intersecting Lines: Two lines or rays that meet or cross each point are said to be intersecting each other. other at a Parallel Lines: Two lines or rays that never intersect each other are said to be parallel to each other. Perpendicular Lines: Two lines are said to be perpendicular to each other if they intersect each other at an angle of 90 Degree. ANGLES Angles: A figure formed by two rays with a common initial point CLASSIFICATION OF ANGLES 1. 8 2. Acute Angle: An angle which measures between 0 degree and 90 degree. 3. Right Angle: An angle which measures 90 degree. 4. Obtuse Angle: An angle which measures more than 90 degree but less than 180 degree. 5. Straight Angle: An angle measures 180 degree. 6. Reflex Angle: An angle which measure more than 180 degree but less than 360 degree.
