The average interbank rate for the month of August rose to 6.9% as compared to 4.8% recorded in the month of July The average rates of the 91- day, 182-day and the 64-day T-bills declined to 7.6%, 9.0% and 10.0% as banks continued to invest spare funds in Treasury bills in light of interest rate caps. Interest Rates The yield curve declined by an average of 16 basis points during the month, with most declines being observed across the long end of the curve. The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) issued a 10-year (FXD1/2018/10) bond to raise a total of KES 40.0bn. Total bids accepted amounted to KES 19.4bn, at an average rate of 12.69%. Activity in the secondary market declined during the month, with turnover decreasing by 8% to KES 45 billion from KES 49 billion in July Inflation Inflation decreased to 4.04% in August from 4.5% a month earlier on the back of lower food prices, which declined 0.66%, countering 2.56% and 0.87% increases in household and transport prices respectively. Core inflation rose from 4.0% to 4.2%.
