In 2, despite the recovery being reflected in a % increase in 2 EU aggregate turnover relative to that of 2, enterprises manufacturing parts and accessories for motor vehicles had returned to 2 turnover levels in only 6 of 24 countries. The characteristics of the EU car market are detailed through ratios of car sales and car ownership per household. Finally, world car production and sales and the trade balance of the car industry within and outside the EU are covered. 5 Further information. Car production in the EU The first chart presents the production of light vehicles, which includes passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in 7 Member States for the period 2-. Figures come from the statistics on EU industrial production collected by Eurostat under Council Regulation (EEC) No 294/9 and correspond to codes 29.2 (manufacture of motor vehicles) and 29.2 (manufacture of parts and accessories for motor vehicles). For the purposes of the survey, countries must report the physical volume and value of production, actually carried out on the Member State s territory. When production in a given country is less % of the EU total it is reported as zero. The map shows the number of enterprises manufacturing motor vehicles (NACE group 29.2) and their cumulative turnover for each Member State in 2 (provisional figures) except for Italy and Slovenia, which are 2 figures. Turnover equals the total price invoiced and it includes all duties and taxes with the exception of VAT and other similar deductible taxes; it also includes all other charges (transport, packaging, etc.) passed on to the customer. 2. Car industry: Turnover and emplioyment during the crisis The value of turnover by enterprises manufacturing parts and accessories for motor vehicles is presented in the first chart. The second chart displays the number of persons employed by the car industry including manufacturing of motor vehicles as well as production of parts and accessories. 6 . Car sales and car stocks per household The chart presents the car ownership ratio of European households (how many cars a household owns on average), represented by colours. The size of the squares is linked to the sales per household ratio (proportion of households that bought a new car in the year). The figures for this chart are presented in the table below: Stock/Household Sales/Household Stock/Household Sales/Household AT.2.9 BE.7. BG.9. CY.6.4 CZ.2.4 DE.. DK.4.7 EE.4. ES..4 FR.26.7 GR.2. EU car trade balance The maps present the net trade flow (exports minus imports) of the EU and Member States with main partners regarding the imports/exports of cars (motor vehicles for the transport of fewer persons, CN code group 7 in the trade database). Member States figures include trade flows both within and outside the EU. The figures for trade with non-eu partners concern the whole EU27. Figures in circles represent the net trade in number of car units (thousand) whilst the colours code the net trade value (in billion). The main net trade flows outside the EU are presented in the right hand side map according to the figures below (in million): Imports Exports NetTrade Imports Exports NetTrade World USA China Russia Switzerland Turkey India Mexico S.Korea Japan Author: Eulalia Claros Contact: eulalia.claros@ep.europa.eu Page 6 of 6 Extraction date: data have been extracted in August 2.
