3 Prof. Lawrence BOO Prof. Lawrence Boo is a practising arbitrator and academic. He is well recognised as Singapore s leading international arbitrator, having sat as arbitrator in more than 200 cases and written numerous awards. His cases included those administered by the ICC, CIETAC, SIAC, LCIA, HKIAC and ad hoc arbitrations. He is on the panel of numerous international arbitral institutions. He was formerly CEO/Registrar ( ) and Deputy Chairman ( ) of the SIAC. Prof. Boo leads the teaching of international arbitration at the National University of Singapore, Bond University (Australia) and is a Visiting Professor at Wuhan University (China). He is a Law Reform Consultant to the Attorney-General s Chambers and had led the Singapore delegation at UNCITRAL working group meetings on arbitration ( ). He also holds appointment as a District Judge, Singapore. Ieva KALNINA Ieva Kalnina (PhD cand. (EUI, Florence), LLM (Harvard; Fulbright scholar), BA (University of Latvia) is an attorney (New York, 2006) and associate at Lévy Kaufmann-Kohler (Geneva) where she practices international commercial and investment arbitration and acts as secretary or assistant to arbitral tribunals in cases under the ICC, ICSID and UNCITRAL Rules. Formerly, associate in int l arbitration department of Bonelli Erede Pappalardo (Milan) and lecturer at Riga Graduate School of Law (taught courses on Int l Dispute Resolution and State Responsibility under Int l Law). Member of the IBA Investment Arbitration Subcommittee, Young ICCA, YIAG, ICC YAF, CIS Arbitration Network. List of publications and speaking engagements available upon request. Speaks Latvian, English, Italian, French, Russian; intermediate knowledge of German and Spanish. Dr. Christopher BOOG Christopher Boog is a Partner in Schellenberg Wittmer s International Arbitration Group in Zurich. He specializes in international arbitration and represents clients in commercial disputes related to construction and engineering projects, research and development, sales contracts including post-m&a disputes, the energy sector and the pharmaceutical and automotive industries. Christopher graduated from the law schools of the Universities of Amsterdam and Fribourg, was a Visiting Scholar at Columbia Law School in New York and obtained a doctorate in law (summa cum laude) from the University of Zurich. He regularly publishes and speaks in the fields of international arbitration and transnational litigation. Dr. Yas BANIFATEMI Yas Banifatemi is a partner in Shearman & Sterling s International Arbitration Group and heads the firm s Public International Law practice. She has appeared as Counsel in both investment treaty and commercial arbitrations, institutional or ad hoc, with focus on investment, oil & gas, mergers & acquisitions, and general commercial disputes. She also sits as arbitrator. Yas Banifatemi holds a Ph.D in Public International Law from the University of Panthéon-Assas and an LLM from Harvard Law School and teaches International Investment Law at Panthéon-Sorbonne University. She has authored numerous publications on international arbitration and public international law. 91

4 Neil KAPLAN, Q.C Neil Kaplan was Chairman of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre from and was President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators from May 1999 until May Mr. Kaplan is a full-time practising arbitrator. From March 1990 until the end of 1994, he was a judge of the Supreme Court of Hong Kong and was the judge in charge of the Construction and Arbitration list. From 1994 until the end of 1999, he was the Convenor of the Dispute Review Group for Hong Kong s new airport. Mr. Kaplan is currently Chairman of Hong Kong s Telecommunications (Competition Provision) Appeal Board. In June 2001, Mr. Kaplan was awarded a CBE for services to international arbitration. In 2007, he was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR. In November 2009, Mr. Kaplan became an International Arbitration Advisor with then Mallesons Stephen Jaques, now King & Wood Mallesons. Calvin CHAN Calvin Chan is based in Skadden s Singapore office, where he is a member of its International Litigation and Arbitration Group covering the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to Singapore, he practised for a number of years in New York, London and Hong Kong. He is qualified to practise U.S. and English law, and is also admitted to the Singapore bar. Mr. Chan focuses his practice on the resolution of cross-border disputes, particularly in the area of international arbitration. He has been involved in a broad range of arbitrations (both commercial and investor-state) across an array of industry sectors and jurisdictions under major arbitration rules such as the AAA/ ICDR, ICC, LCIA, HKIAC, SIAC, UNCITRAL and ICSID, as counsel, arbitrator and arbitral secretary. Ben JURATOWITCH Ben Juratowitch is a member of the international arbitration group of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP and is based in Paris. He has represented and advised corporations and states on a wide variety of international commercial disputes as well as on protection of foreign investments, sovereignty over territory, maritime boundary delimitation, trans-boundary pollution, control over airspace, sovereign immunity, treaty drafting and interpretation, regulation of natural resources and international human rights law. He obtained his doctorate in law as a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford and teaches an annual course of seminars on international dispute settlement at the University of Paris V. 92
