For Nov the classes started from the 3 rd week of August and concluded in the first week of November Special care has been taken in selecting competent & sincere faculty for all the subjects. A system of feed back from students was in place to monitor the quality of tuition. Beema Beekshan: July September 2003 issue of the house magazine- Beema Beekshan was published on 1 st October A special section titled Examination Guide comprising solutions of past year s Questions in Associateship & Fellowship Examination received (Contd. in 2nd column) The 27th Annual General Meeting was held on 14th July, Diploma Certificates were given to the successful candidates. The Editorial Board is taking special care to ensure that latest information of interest reaches the members. Agents Training: Year was earmarked as the Year of Agents Training, as revealed from the following series of our training activities: On 17 th July, 2003 a special Training Programme was organized at the Bharat Bhavan at the initiative of Sri Amitava Dutta, Development Officer of CBO-2 and Sri Barun Sarkar, Development Officer of CBO-18. The topics for the session were Comparative Product Analysis of various Providers in India and Latest Changes in the Underwriting Practices in LIC. The Speakers were Sankar Das & Arun Patra. On 20 th November another training was organized at the request of Sri D. Banerjee and Sri S. Daw of Shyambazar Branch.30 IRDA agents took part in the session. Sri S. Das, Sri A.Patra,Sri.S.Chowdhury and Sri M.Chakravarty were the faculty. The topics were Conventional Products, Pension and Unit linked products, Underwriting and Prospecting. A tailor made session was organized from 10 th Dec. 13 th Dec 03 at the DTC Hall, Jeevan Prakash, 16 C.R.Avenue, Kolkata Sri M.R.Nag, top Development Officer of CBO-5 nominated their club member agents for the session. Sri Tapas Sil, Assistant Branch Manager (Sales) of the Branch graced the occasion and applauded the role of the. 60 Agents participated at the four days programme. The topics for the session were fundamentals of, Taxation & Financial Planning, Product Presentation, Underwriting, Prospe-cting and Agency Career & Motivation. Sri S.Das, A.Patra, J.Dasgupta, 92

Agents Workshop: An IRDA Agents Workshop was conducted by the at Ghatal Branch, outside Kolkata Metropolitan area on 21 st September Sri Sankar Das gave a live demonstration about how to present a product attractively to prospects with detailed analysis of a few plans. Sri Aloke Dutta spoke on Prospecting while Sri Sudipto Sarkar spoke on Profile of LIC and fundamental linkage of various departments in the Branch. In the concluding part, Sri A.Patra gave an exceptional deliberation on Motivation. Participants numbered around 60 were so charged that almost everyone committed to bring 3 proposals within 3 days as requested by the Dev.Officer. Sri Mondal, DO, also expressed his satisfaction over the effectiveness of the programme and wished to hold such programme again in near future. The role of Sri Dipankar Sasmal(Liaison Person, Ghatal Branch) without whose initiative the programme could not materialize,was appreciated by all. How To Face Interview: The much awaited popular programme How to face Interview for AAO aspirants of LIC-2003 was organized on at the Zonal Conference Hall. Sri K.B.Saha, RM(P&GS), Sri S.S.Das Mahapatra, RM(Publicity)and Md.Azeezuddin, BDM/EZO, spoke on various aspects of interview and provided tips to the aspirants to get through the interview process. A set of practice Questionnaire compiled by the were distributed among the participants to get practice for the interview. Debate: The motion of the debate this year was Private Players have already added new meaning to Life in India. The event that took place on 23 rd August 2003 at DTC Hall, KMDO- I, was very lively with a good number of participants, speaking both for & against the motion giving very strong, sustainable & thought provoking points & counter points. The Judge cum Moderator, Sri A.K. Banerjee, Ex-Principal/EZTC, commented, As a rule, one has to be selected as the best and Sri S.Mukhopadhyay, CBO-11 is selected for the motion and Sri Surojit Das, CBO-17 against the motion. At the vale-dictory speech Sri P.Bondapodhyay, CVO/NIC high-lighted the prospects of Pene-tration in India. Quiz: On the occasion of the 47th Week celebration, an Quiz Contest was organized on 3 rd September, 2003 at the Conference Hall of KMDO- I. There were altogether 8 groups having 3 members in each. Sri Manish Nahata was the Quiz Master. Prizes were given to the top teams in the function held at the Divisional Office by Sr. D.M., Sri P.K.Karmakar. Publication of Plans at a Glance: This year, the has brought out a booklet titled Plans at a Glance containing salient features of all the plans of LIC as well as other private Insurers. The booklet was of immense help to the new agents in getting familiar with insurance products. The booklet received huge response from the field force and appreciation from LIC/EZO. Liaison Persons Meet: The first ever liaison persons meet of the was held on 19 th July 2003 at Bharat Bhavan. The General Secretary, Sri S. Das greeted the participating liaison persons from all the four local divisions of LIC and briefed them about the role of deputing liaison persons in Branch/ Divisional Offices. Almost all participants interacted with Sri S. Sengupta and Sri P. Dutta, Joint 93

Important points raised were organizing agents training in more branches to ensure more life members, holding oral tuition classes in fixed schedule and conduct of classes in distant branches also. Seminar on Prospecting An educational seminar on Prospecting was organized by the on at State Youth Centre (Moulali). Sri Kallol Ghosh, an MDRT agent and an elegant orator, was the sole speaker on the topic. The venue being full to its capacity (about 400). Sri Ghosh enthralled the audience for almost two & half hours speaking on a subject that is popular alike among the field force. Inauguration of in-house Library by Deputy Secretary of III / Mumbai The much awaited and a well furnished library was inaugurated on 5 th September, 2003 at the hands of Sri T.S.V. Subramaniam, Deputy Secretary of III/ Mumbai. Sri Subramaniam expressed his satisfaction over the system of our library as well as over the stock of books. Annual Convocation: This year s Annual Convocation was held on 29 th November at the Conference Hall of Eastern Zonal Office. At the focal point were Sri T.K.Banerjee, member-irda as the Chief Guest and Sri R.K. Misra, ZM, LIC- EZO. A host of other dignitaries from LIC s Zonal & Divisional Offices were also present. According to the tradition, the convocation was inaugurated by lighting the lamp at the hands of Chief Guest Sri T.K.Banerjee. He was assisted by the other dignatories present- Sri R.K.Misra, ZM/LIC, Sri D.Basu, President of III/Kolkata, Sri D.K.Mehrotra & Sri S.K.Mitter, RM(Mktg)/LIC and Sri P.Bondopadhyay, CVO/NIC. Sri Banerjee shared his experience of his visit to a leading research organization in the US engaged totally in research activities. Sri Misra,ZM/LIC who is also a chief patron of our, congratulated all the Diploma & Prize recipients and urged them to carry on their study in pursuit of further excellence. Diplomas were given out to Associates & Fellows. Prizes & certificates were also awarded to students scoring high marks, rankers in different competitions and participants in different training/workshops of the. (See photographs elsewhere in the Journal). Pondicherry The conducted a programme on 21st December, 2003 at Cuddalore Hon. Secretary welcoming the participants. for the benefit of agents of LIC of India on the topic, "PERSONALITY, DEVELOPMENT AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS". In all, 34 agents participated in the programme which was sponsored by LIC of India, Branch Office, Cuddalore. The programme started with prayer followed with inaugural address by the Council Member of Pondicherry. Honorary Secretary of the extended welcome to the participants and other guests. Topics covered in the programme were on subject Born to win, Assertiveness and Communication with impact. The programme was well supported by faculty members of United India Company, Sarvashri B.S.T. Shah, Divl. Manager, Chennai, N. Alagappan, Divl. Manager, Pondicherry and J. Ravindran, Asst. Manager, Chennai. The programme was inaugurated by Shri V. Sehsadri, Council Member, PII. Shri K. Narayanasamy, Hon. Secretary welcomed the participants, Shri P. Natesan, Administration Committee member addressing the meeting. 94

Trivandrum Under the auspices of the, a seminar was conducted on 10th December, 2003 at the Conference Hall, LIC of India, Thiruvananthapuram. Sri S. Chidambaram, Consulting Actuary, presented a paper on 'Actuarial Valuation of Life Funds, Solvency Margin - with particular reference to LIC of India. The seminar was attended by senior officers of LIC, insurance professionals and members of the local. (A copy of the paper appears elsewhere in the Journal). Visakhapatnam The conducted on 19th December, 2003 a Guest Lecture Programme on the subjects, "Product Designing and Key Service Areas Customer Oriented Initiatives". Dr. K. Ramamohan Rao, Professor, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam was the Chief Guest. The programme was presided over by Shri S. Behera, Chairman, Visakhapatnam and Divisional Manager of LIC of India. Smt. N. Devi, AAO, LIC of India, Visakhapatnam delivered a lecture on "Pension Business - Scanning the Potential and Suggested Schemes". The programme was well attended and received good appreciation.
