1 USAB INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT ACCREDITATION POLICY 1. USAB DISCRETION TO GRANT ACCREDITATION REQUESTS USAB may grant or reject the request for accreditation at its absolute discretion and may impose further terms and conditions as it sees fit. USAB shall do its best to grant requests for accreditation but USAB does not guarantee approval. Once granted, USAB may revoke accreditation at any time at its absolute discretion without being liable to compensate the applicant, the athlete or any other person. USAB or its designated official for a particular event may request an accredited member for reasonable formal assistance for the USA at any tournament. If requested, and the accredited member does not cooperate, USAB may withdraw this accreditation and place all future request for accreditation under review. 2. REQUEST PROCEDURE Requests for accreditation must be made event by event for individual international tournaments. Alternatively, one can make a request for accreditation for all events for a full calendar year. For BWF events such as the Sudirman Cup, Thomas & Uber Cups, the World Championships and Junior World Championships, USAB will prioritize the allocation of accreditations criteria (see Allocation of Accreditation). For the Pan American and Olympic Games, USAB shall determine the allocation based on those approved by the USOC. For individual international tournaments, requests for accreditation must be made: o Event by event No later than 8 weeks before an event. o For 1 calendar year, anytime during the calendar year - note however that each annual application ends on December 31 st. Request for accreditation is not a confirmed approval. A request for accreditation is considered approved only when USAB provides a confirmation in writing. 3. USAB ACCREDITATION CATEGORIES AND ALLOCATION PRIORITY FOR ADULT EVENTS USAB prioritizes the applicants for accreditation in the following order Group 1 1. USAB Certified Coach or coaches formally nominated by USAB for the event 2. Team Leader/Manager nominated by USAB 3. Medical Personnel approved or nominated by USAB 1

2 Group 2 4. USAB Supporters (USAB Board of Directors, USAB Volunteers, and others as determined by USAB) 5. USAB Certified Personal coach and/or non-usab Certified (foreign) coach formally approved by USAB 6. Family - a parent or accompanying athletes family formally nominated by USAB 7. Sponsor (as determined by USAB) If there are more applications for the Personal Coach/Manager accreditation than the tournament organizer offers USAB, they will be given out in order of World Ranking of the player at the time of the tournament. The USAB Certified Coaches who receive accreditation may be requested to coach any US athletes who do not have an accredited coach, if match times do not conflict with duties to their primary athlete. (see Coaches Code of Ethics & Conduct , 4.05) All applicants must be 18 years old at the time of requesting accreditation approval All applicants other than the non-usab Certified (foreign) coach and the sponsors must: o Be a current USAB member in good standing o Complete an accreditation application o Provide a clear electronic copy of passport o Provide a clear passport sized electronic head and shoulder photo in JPEG format of not less than 300kb o Complete a Background Check (through the USAB recognized Background Check agency - National Center for Safety Initiatives) An electronic copy of the background check transaction must be provided at the time of requesting for accreditation. USAB Certified and non-usab Certified (foreign) coaches: o Can request accreditation as Personal Coaches/Managers (contact Mohan Subramaniam, Director of Coaching& High Performance at mohan@usabadminton.org ) jointly with the athletes he/she will be coaching. Note : USAB is finalizing a Personal Coach/Manager Policy. Parents and athlete s families: o Can apply under Group 2 as Personal Coach/Manager if they are USAB Certified Coaches; or o Can apply under Group 2 as Family o Each family will be limited to a maximum of 2 accreditations. Sponsors seeking accreditation: o Need not be USAB members or U.S. citizens o Must make a specified amount of donation to USAB based on the tournament type they wish to attend as supporter if approved: Level 1 (Thomas & Uber Cup, Sudirman Cup, World Championships, Suhandinata Cup, Enopi Cup, World Senior Championships) - $250 per applicant 2

3 Level 2 (Super Series Masters Finals, Super Series Premier and Super Series) - $150 per applicant Level 3 (Grand Prix Gold, Grand Prix and Pan Am Championships) - $100 per applicant Level 4 (International Challenge, International Series, Future Series, Pan Am Juniors) - $50 per applicant All persons who have been approved must sign a Team Officials Code of Conduct. If there is a limited number of free accreditations, Group 1 applicants will be given priority before Group 2 applicants. If the free accreditation quota is filled, then the other applicants will be reviewed for paid accreditation. All accreditation requests will be allocated as prioritized above. Should sponsors opt for paid accreditation they will have to make the USAB recommended donation and pay the accreditation cost as advised by the tournament organizers. 4. USAB ACCREDITATION CATEGORIES AND ALLOCATION PRIORITY FOR JUNIOR EVENTS (PAN AM JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS AND WORLD JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS & OTHER JUNIOR INTERNATIONAL EVENTS) For junior international events USAB prioritizes the applicants for accreditation in the following order: Group 1 1. USAB Certified Coach or coaches formally nominated by USAB for the event 2. Team Leader/Manager nominated by USAB 3. Medical Personnel approved or nominated by USAB Group 2 4. USAB Supporters (USAB Board of Directors, USAB Volunteers, and others as determined by USAB) 5. Personal Coach & Family - USAB Certified Personal coach and/or non-usab Certified (foreign) coach formally approved by USAB and Family - a parent or accompanying athletes family formally nominated by USAB 6. Sponsor (as determined by USAB) Accreditation for Personal Coach and Family applicants will be distributed: o Based on the order of finish at the Junior International Trial (JIT) o If there is a tie in the order of finish the flowing will apply: - Singles JIT finish will rank higher than Doubles or Mixed Doubles - Doubles JIT finish will rank higher than Mixed Doubles o If there is one available accreditation for a team e.g. Doubles or Mixed Doubles, the players or the parents will have decide as to who should be awarded the accreditation. 3

4 5. ACCREDITATION NON TRANSFERABLE Accreditations may not be transferred or assigned to any other person. USAB may reject or review or impose further terms and conditions as it sees fit should the accredited applicant abuse the privilege or is found by the organizer to have abused the conditions of the accreditation. 6. KEY OBLIGATIONS Accreditation applicants will abide by and comply with any terms of entry into the tournament venues as prescribed from time to time by the organizer or the venue, to the extent those terms of entry do not directly and materially conflict with the rights attaching to the accreditation. Applicants will abide by all reasonable directions of the designated USAB official while at the tournament venue. Applicants will at all times while in the grounds:- o Wear the accreditation pass/identifying pass as may be provided by the organizer. o Wear accreditation pass/identifying pass so it is visible at all times; and o Not tamper with any of such items or do anything to obscure any part of them. 7. CONDUCT The applicant agrees to conduct himself/herself in a way that will not bring the tournament and/or the sport of badminton into ridicule or disrepute and will behave at all times in a manner to be expected of a professional in his/her field and in accordance with any applicable requirements of the organizer and/or the BWF and USAB. The applicant agrees not to interfere with other media, spectators, players, teams or matches and agrees to refrain from any behavior that is offensive, aggressive or discourteous. USAB reserves the right to withdraw accreditation (effective immediately) if it considers that the applicant has breached any of these requirements. 8. LIABILITY & INDEMNITY The applicant shall assume all risks and incidents while attending the tournament. Group 1 applicants agree that they are at all times acting on behalf of USAB whether they are employed or not employed by USAB, are liable to the USAB Coaches Code of Ethics & Conduct and BWF s Code of Conduct for Coaches & Officials, agree they are not acting as the organizer and/or the BWF, and agree to release USAB, the organizer and/or the BWF, from and against any and all liability, loss, damage, 4

5 expense and/or injury arising from the issuance, use or revocation of the accreditation or in conjunction with applicant s presence at the tournament. Group 2 applicants agree that they are not acting on behalf of USAB, the organizer and/or the BWF, are not employees of USAB but are subject to the USAB Coaches Code of Ethics & Conduct, and BWF s Code of Conduct for Coaches & Officials and agrees to release USAB, the organizer and/or the BWF, from and against any and all liability, loss, damage, expense and/or injury arising from the issuance, use or revocation of the accreditation or in conjunction with applicant s presence at the tournament. They also must have read and are aware of the USOC/USAB Safe Sports Guidelines: Sports-Program.aspx The applicant jointly and severally hereby indemnifies and holds harmless USAB, the organizer and/or the BWF and their respective employees, staff and agents against any and all liability, loss (including consequential loss), damage or expense resulting from a breach of these Terms and Conditions, the issuance or revocation of accreditation, the applicant s presence at the tournament and the applicant s use of any tournament transportation, services or hotels. 9. DATA PROTECTION The accreditation applicant grants USAB, its licensees and contractors including photographers, television and motion picture companies rights including, without limiting thereby, the right to film or video tape the applicant during matches, narratives, personal interviews, or commentary thereon for any and all commercial, news or other purposes together with the right to transfer or assign their rights to others, all without remuneration or compensation to the applicant whatsoever. These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with US law. USAB reserves the right (without prejudice to any other right or remedy it may have) to withdraw accreditation at any time if the applicant breaches any of these Terms and Conditions. Policy Endorsement This policy has been reviewed by the USAB Office, USAB Board of Directors, USOC & USAB Athletes Advisory Council Rep, and the USAB Ethics and Judicial Advisory Group. USAB reserves the right to amend the USAB International Tournament Accreditation Policy. 5
