4 CHANGING THE INSURANCE CONVERSATION The demands on financial advisers have never been greater. Not only do you face increased competition, legislation and scrutiny, you re also navigating an environment of rising insurance premiums and concerns over retaining your clients. That makes it difficult to give increasingly price-sensitive clients the cover they need. The life insurance industry is facing similar challenges. Life products were built on the basic principle that cover can help put clients back into the same financial position they would have been in if the event didn t happen. But in recent years, with vast medical improvements and product features and benefits becoming more generous, the cost of providing cover is rising making it more difficult for some clients to afford the cover they need. That s why ANZ Wealth is changing the insurance conversation by introducing two new covers in the OneCare range Income Secure Essentials and Severity Trauma. A common sense approach The new covers have been designed with the original intentions of these type of life products in mind to financially support those suffering illness or injury. The new covers are: OneCare Income Secure Essentials provides income support to clients through periods of disability, while giving them added incentives to return to work as their condition improves. Making insurance more accessible The new covers feature lower premiums than OneCare s other cover types. This means there are more Australians who can afford the level of cover they need, and can become your client at an earlier lifestage. OneCare Severity Trauma covers a broad range of medical conditions, but introduces a new tiered approach aligning payments with the severity of the condition. INCOME SECURE ESSENTIALS AND SEVERITY TRAUMA FEATURE: THEY MAY BE SUITABLE FOR CLIENTS WHO: lower premiums than other OneCare covers are younger or new to insurance two-year rate lock guarantee have cost or cash flow concerns earn Qantas Points on premiums are trying to save for retirement 4

5 ONECARE INCOME SECURE ESSENTIALS The case for change Income protection insurance is simple in principle it provides monthly payments where illness or injury affects the insured s ability to work. Originally the product was designed to replace a portion of the insured s lost income while they were unable to work, so they could concentrate on recovering without worrying about everyday living expenses. However, over the years many insurers have added generous product benefits and features that go beyond the original purpose. Has this generosity created a situation where some claimants are receiving more money on claim than they were earning pre-claim? Has this created a disincentive to return to work? A unique package of in-built features Income Secure Essentials offers a package of benefits designed to provide support to clients through periods of disability, while giving them added incentives to return to work as their condition improves. New features include: Severity Booster Benefit If your client is temporarily unable to perform two of the five activities of daily living after six months on a claim for Total Disability, we will boost the monthly benefit by one-third taking the payment to 100% of their preclaim earnings. Pregnancy Premium Waiver Feature We will waive premiums for up to six months over the life of the policy, should your client become pregnant. Rehabilitation and Retraining Incentive Benefit If your client completes a rehabilitation or retraining program and returns to work for six consecutive months, we will pay 1 x monthly benefit. Return to Health Benefit We will pay an additional 10% of the monthly benefit when your client is attending an approved rehabilitation or retraining program. We will also pay for the program itself. 10 Year Benefit Period We offer an additional benefit period to provide even greater flexibility. 5

6 THE CUSTOMER CLAIM JOURNEY WORKING BACK TO HEALTH There s a growing body of evidence to suggest that returning to work can actually play an important role in recovery. For example, working: provides mental stimulation and social interaction, adds structure and physical activity to the week, and increases confidence, self-esteem and independence. But it also incentivises clients to undergo rehabilitation and/or retraining which may enable them to return to work sooner which we believe can help deliver better outcomes for your clients. 8 ONECARE SEVERITY TRAUMA The case for change Trauma Insurance was originally designed to help clients fund large medical expenses that may arise if they suffer a serious medical condition, such as cancer or a heart attack. However, high cover levels and an all or nothing approach to benefit payments means there s often a mismatch between the financial support a client receives from an insurer and what they really need particularly for medical conditions that can more easily be treated. Matching the cover to the need Severity Trauma makes cover more affordable for clients by offering a tiered benefit structure for a number of major conditions, ensuring a better alignment between the event and the financial impact. The following diagram shows the three tiers and how they are applied for five medical conditions. With medical advances increasing the chances of early diagnosis, and offering less invasive treatments for a number of conditions, we believe a tiered benefit structure increasingly makes sense. 9 EXAMPLE HEART ATTACK Phillip took out a policy with $500,000 Severity Trauma Cover. After one year, Phillip suffers a heart condition and meets the defined heart attack (diagnosed) condition. Phillip receives $50,000 (Tier 1 being 10% of the amount insured) which reduces his Severity Trauma Cover to $450,000. Three months after having ongoing optimal therapy for the heart condition, Phillip is left with a permanent impairment and meets the defined heart attack permanent LVEF less than 50% condition. Because the condition is a progression of the prior claim, Phillip receives $225,000 (Tier 2 being 50% of the remaining amount insured) which reduces his Severity Trauma Cover to $225,000. What it covers Severity Trauma is based on OneCare s Trauma Comprehensive, paying: a full benefit for 33 medical conditions, with a tiered structure for the main conditions a partial benefit for 38 medical conditions Some severe medical conditions are not considered suitable to be tiered. For those we will pay a full benefit. Severity Trauma also includes a new Pregnancy Premium Waiver benefit. So we will waive premiums for up to six months over the life of the policy, should your client become pregnant. Please note that clients with Severity Trauma will not be offered Life Cover buy back or other optional benefits such as Trauma Cover re-instatement.
