10 Screening test in traditional underwriting Medical tests in underwriting are usually used as screening tests. Screening is a strategy used in a population to detect a disease in individuals without any signs or symptoms of that disease. Insurance companies believe, they improve their risk management by using screening tests. But are they right? 21/04/

Advantage of this approach: Consumer data only need to be linked to a traditionally underwritten portfolio, link to claims data (e.g. death, disability incidence) is not required. Implication: Approach implies that traditional UW is working fine: aim is to reproduce the traditional UW decision, not to improve it. 21/04/
