What are the HAZARDS? Look for hazards which you could reasonably expect to result in significant harm HOW might they cause harm? HAZARD examples Damaged equipment Slipping hazards e.g. papers/ spillages etc. Electricity e.g. flex broken Tripping hazards e.g. bags/wires/leads Positioning/space/confined areas ON A TRIP examples Getting lost resulting in Missing the transport Adverse weather Excess alcohol resulting in. Who are the People at RISK? Who are the people who may be harmed by the Hazard Think of groups of people individuals who may be affected e.g. Students The Public Participants Volunteers Spectators Staff Cleaners Maintenance staff What are you already doing to CONTROL the Risk? What precautions have you already taken against the Hazards you have listed? e.g. have you given adequate information, guidance, training instruction? Are there adequate procedures in place? Do the Controls reduce risk as far as reasonably practicable? What FURTHER ACTIONS are required to Control the Risk? What more can be reasonably done for those Risks which are not already adequately controlled? Apply the following principles, in order: 1.Remove the risk completely 2.Choose a less risky option 3.Prevent access to hazard 4.Limit exposure to the hazard 5.Issue protective clothing or equipment 6.Provide welfare facilities e.g. first aid Remember to involve staff in completing this section so that you ensure what is proposed will work not introduce new hazards Action by WHOM? Members required to read current code of practice as a condition of joining the club. All LSU members are required to make themselves aware of the AU s accident reporting procedures to familiarize himself/herself with emergency procedures in place at the venue. What FURTHER ACTIONS are required to Control the Risk? Verbally make players aware of their current situation. For example to tell them there is a shuttlecock or wet surface near them. Have people first aid trained. We have coaches already first aid trained, captains will be in due course. Action by WHOM? Players coaches The most appropria te person present Action by WHEN? Driving to from venues (minibuses/van) Driver, passengers, other road users For LSU minibuses all drivers have undertaken appropriate training must re-register each year with LSU. Outside hire minibuses drivers to meet the hire company s rental requirements. People on the trip informed that no items left on the coach are covered by insurance they leave them on there at their own risk. All drivers to complete AU Vehicle Registration Form, after having contacted their motor insurance company to make sure they are covered to take Passengers are responsible for individual belongs, kit to be stored in appropriate storage areas. 5 People going on the trip are informed that the bus etc will only wait 10 minutes before departing with or without them. At least two people must do a full head count before departure after every stop, using the passenger list as a check. (including any comfort stops en route) identify anyone missing. In addition, all passengers to be asked to make a note of the person who is sitting next to them to let the organiser know before departure if that person has not returned to their seat after a comfort or other stop. times so that people on the trip can contact them with any problems. Ensure those involved with organisation of event/team captains/managers etc are aware of the need to nominate 2 people responsible to undertake a head count before departure, using passenger list as a check identify anyone missing. Also they should ask all passengers to make a note of the person sitting next to them to report to the two people responsible for head counts, should that person not return to their seat before any departure/stop. This should not be a huge problem (only 6
