6 ABOUT US ANDREW J. CONNOLLY Andrew J. Connolly is a Principal and Chair of the Firm s Construction Defect/Injury Litigation Group. He is experienced in the handling of catastrophic and complex third party work place injuries occurring on multi-employer construction sites. His experience includes defending cases involving personal injury or property damage allegedly caused by general contractors, architects, engineers, and property owners. For over 20 years, Mr. Connolly has been defending local professional football, hockey, soccer, and basketball franchises and their security contractors in cases alleging injuries caused by, amongst other things, intoxication, excessive force, false arrest, inadequate security, fights, falls, guardrail failure, and escalator failure. Defense verdict at trial representing the target architect in a claimed $25.0 million business failure arising from the alleged improper design by the architect. Defense verdict at trial representing the target contractor in a claimed $5.0 million roof collapse. Defense verdict in class action certification trial brought by 600 putative plaintiffs against contractors who allegedly constructed apartment buildings in negligent fashion so as to cause alleged exposure to carbon monoxide. Summary judgment as national counsel for the target manufacturer of hydraulic cylinders used in aerial lifts which were collapsing and causing catastrophic injuries to users in multiple states (reported decision). * Summary judgment for the target manufacturer defendant in a wrongful death case allegedly arising from the work place electrocution of the plaintiff s decedent which was allegedly caused by the equipment (reported decision).

8 ABOUT US MATTHEW D. JOHNSON Matthew D. Johnson is an Associate in the Firm s Casualty Litigation Department and concentrates his practice on construction and product liability law. Mr. Johnson regularly defends general contractors, prime contractors, subcontractors, material suppliers, equipment suppliers, and property owners in complex construction-related matters involving personal injury and property damage claims. Additionally, Mr. Johnson represents manufacturers and distributors in product liability matters involving a wide-range of products. Associate 1600 John F. Mr. Johnson s technical background also provides him with a solid knowledge base for communicating with experts, including architects and civil, structural, material, and electrical engineers, during the course of a litigation. Mr. Johnson also has extensive experience defending a professional football franchise and its security contractor from patrons claims involving assault, use of excessive force, inadequate security, and intoxication at a variety of venues including sporting events and concerts. REPRESENTATIVE CASES Mr. Johnson was selected for inclusion in the 2013 and 2014 editions of Philadelphia Magazine Pennsylvania Super Lawyer - Rising Stars, a listing which includes the top 2.5 percent of attorneys in the Commonwealth who are 40 years of age or younger or have been practicing for less than 10 years. Successfully defended the target contractor in a claimed $750,000 loss arising from the complete collapse of a residential property and damage to an adjoining property during excavation at a construction project. Successfully defended a cosmetic company in a products liability lawsuit where the plaintiff alleged that she suffered chemical burns, along with permanent scarring and hair loss, from her use of a cosmetic product. Successfully defended a maintenance contractor where the plaintiff alleged that the contractor caused the plaintiff to be exposed to Legionnaires disease, resulting in the plaintiff sustaining permanent lung scarring and related respiratory injuries. Successfully defended a manufacturer of a commercial refrigeration system in a products liability lawsuit where the plaintiff claimed he became permanently disabled due to an accident involving the allegedly defective refrigeration system.
