2 African Rural and Agricultural Credit Association (AFRACA) The African Rural and Agricultural Credit Association is a regional association of Sub-Saharan financial and non-financial institutions involved in promoting rural and agricultural finance. AFRACA was established in 1977 alongside similar institutions across the globe as a lead advocate and coordinator of rural and agricultural finance in their respective regions. The AFRACA secretariat is based in Nairobi, Kenya where it was registered under the NGOs Coordiantion act in 1981 and received diplomatic status from the government of Kenya in VISION A rural Africa where people have access to sustainable financial services for economic development. MISSION To improve the rural finance environment through the promotion of appropriate policy framework and to support member institutions to provide sustainable quality financial services to the rural population. ABOUT THE HOST/PARTNER INSTITUTIONS: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) was established on 12 July 1982 by an Act of the Parliament to promote sustainable and equitable agriculture and rural prosperity through effective credit support, related services, institutional development and other innovative initiatives. Bankers Institute of Rural Development(BIRD) BIRD is a society registered under societies act, promoted by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), the apex Financial Institution in the area of Agriculture and Rural development in India. BIRD is involved in training, research and consultancy in the field of rural development and banking. The Institute is known for regionfocused, issue-specific and research based training courses and seminars, as well as feasibility and diagnostics studies. It undertakes consultancy and research studies in and outside India. It has undertaken assignments for prestigious national and international financing agencies. The Institute has full time highly qualified and experienced faculty having specialisation in diverse areas. List out efforts and strategy for achieving financial inclusion Describe Bank-led model for FI -Indian experience Describe features of SHG. Use of SHG as BC Describe various components of Financial Inclusion like, micro Insurance, pension and remittances Who Should Attend? The study visit is suited for financial sector practitioners, bank lawyers, agriculture experts, and middle-class managers in the technical field and other professionals in financial services industry, central bankers. TRAINING VENUE The training programme will be held from 26th 30th October 2015 in Lucknow, India. Location BIRD is located in a sprawling campus, at a distance of 6 km from Lucknow airport and 8 km from the railway station. It is fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology for training. It has a well-stocked library, airconditioned seminar/discussion rooms, computer lab and lounge. More details are available on bird website Programme Participation fee The programme fee is only US$ for participants from AFRACA Member institutions and US$ per participant from Non-Members. This covers accommodation, meals (snacks, lunches and dinners) for the entire duration of the course, speakers/facilitator s fees, training venue and materials, land arrangement as well as supplies and other administrative costs. The fee does not include the international round trip air ticket and other incidental expenses. These will be for the account of the nominating organization. 2 P a g e

4 The training fee should be remitted by bank transfer to AFRACA. However, all bank charges including that of the intermediary bank shall be for the account of the remitter. You should forward your travel itinerary to AFRACA at and and AFRACA will organize for transfers to and from the airport. Participants should notify AFRACA by of their arrival and departure (flight number and time) on or before 28th September Travel Requirement Participants must be in possession of a passport valid for at least six months from time of travel with proof of confirmed return ticket. The participant is requested to work out his/her visa arrangements with the nearest Indian Embassy in his/her own country. Formal invitation for Visa purposes shall be sent upon acknowledgement of acceptance of the nomination of the participant by AFRACA. Travel and Medical Insurance The nominating institution should cover for the participants comprehensive health/accident insurance. AFRACA shall not cover the cost of medical treatment or the cost of participants medical/travel insurance. All participants are advised to arrange for their own insurance coverage prior to their trip to India. Dress Code Formal attire is requested on the first day. Otherwise, smart casual is acceptable for other days of the training period. 3 P a g e

Plugs and sockets have either grounded / earthed 3 Pin connections (Type D) or ungrounded 2 pin connections (Type C). The two pin plug is also called the Europlug. It has two round 4 mm (0.157 in) pins. It can be inserted in either way into the socket. Hence there is no fixed live (hot) and neutral (cold) terminals. Will a standard American electric plug fit into a power point in India? No. But any electrical store will sell you an adapter (picture below) for around 50 cents (Rs. 25 aprox) or less. 3 Pin Converter / Adapter The three pin plug is rated at 6A / 250V. It has three round pins in a triangular pattern. The earth terminal is slightly larger than the live and neutral terminals. 4 P a g e

6 TELEPHONE SERVICES Land line service is widely available, while mobile service operators are also available. You can purchase cell phone sim-cards in hotels and shops at the airport and in major stores. WEATHER IN OCTOBER Lucknow weather is fairly warm and subtropical with most of the rainfall occurring during the monsoon season. The climate in Lucknow has three seasons: summer (March to mid-june), rainy season (mid-june to September) and winter (October to February). Summer weather in Lucknow sees average daytime temperatures of 35 C, which sometimes creep over the 40 C mark in May. In winter temperatures can drop to 4 C. branches at the airport and in major malls. ATM SAFETY When using automatic teller machines (ATMs) in India, practice the generally accepted safety precautions you would employ when at home. Never accept an offer from a stranger to help you with your transaction. If your ATM card is withheld by the machine, you can approach the bank to release it, or call the helpline number that can be found at the ATM. LANGUAGE The official language used in India is Hindi however English is widely spoken in major hotels, shops and restaurants. The programme will be conducted in English (presentations and discussions). Warm clothing is appropriate though the conference facilities are air-conditioned. CURRENCY The Indian currency is known as Rupee. The exchange rate is approximately Indian Rupee to 1US$. There are banks with ATMs and change facilities at every commercial center.
