A duty to behave in a way that does not place children at risk of harm A duty to respond to concerns about specific children and report these on to the appropriate authorities who can act to protect them A duty to follow up such referrals to ensure action has been taken

11 C H A R I T Y C O M M I S S I O N The Charity Commission for England and Wales states that: Trustees of charities which work with vulnerable groups and children have a duty of care to their charity which will include taking the necessary steps to safeguard and take responsibility for those children and vulnerable adults. They must always act in their best interests and ensure they take all reasonable steps to prevent any harm to them. Trustees also have duties to manage risk and to protect the reputation and assets of the charity.

This means that you should always report your concerns following the process outlined below even if you are not sure that a child has been harmed or abused.
