14 EXPENDITURES ON HEALTH SECTORS Registering an increase of 34.72% in fiscal year , total expenditure on health has increased from Rs billions to Rs billions, of which, Rs billions have been allocated to development expenditures while Rs. 33 billion for current expenditures. Health expenditures in absolute terms have more than doubled during the last seven years; from 14.3 billions in to Rs. 47 billions in However, health expenditures as a percentage of GDP does not present a satisfactory picture as it has remained stagnant at 0.4 % during the entire period of till Health Sector ( to ) (Rs. 15 EXPENDITURES ON EDUCATION SECTOR According to the Pakistan Educational Statistics 2007, a total of 7,242 new institutions were added in a year which has raised the total number to 231,289. Out of total 164,579 i.e. 67% are in public sector and 81,103 i.e.67% in private sector. Pakistan is committed to the achievement of Millennium Development Goals by the year Massive financial support is required to build educational and other infrastructure and trained staff to achieve these goals. The government has taken several substantial initiatives for teacher s education and professional development. During fiscal year , elementary school teachers have been trained in the country costing Rs.135 Million. Under Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) Debt-Swap initiative, the Executive Committee of national Economic Council (ECNEC) approved a project, costing Rs million for the promotion of teacher training institutes in ICT, FATA, FANA and AJK. Similar projects were also approved for the province of Punjab, Sindh, NWFP and Balochistan at a capital cost of RS. 3,137,752. Rs. 1,261,773.Rs 1,035,319 and Rs.558, 407 million respectively. 16 EXPENDITURES ON SOCIAL PROTECTION (SOCIAL SECURITY) There has been uneven trend in the expenditure in the social sector. However spending as %age of GDP and GNP is showing an even trend. There is a total of % increase in total expenditure since as total expenditure in absolute terms has increased from billions to billion. The expenditure in this sector is still not satisfactory as compared to developed nations. 17 EXPENDITURE ON SOCIAL SERVICES (RECREATION, CULTURE AND RELIGION) There is almost a similar %age of expenditure as a %age of GDP and GNP through out the period from which shows the government has not yet fully realized the importance of this sector. Since total increase in the expenditures in absolute terms in 343% however as a %age of GDP and GNP the there has not been satisfactory increase. Social Services ( to ) (Rs.
