2 Benefits of Bromley House Library Membership Access to our extensive book collections, built up over our 200 year history as well as recent acquisitions. The Library currently holds approximately 40,000 books and adds titles each year. Subscriptions for newspapers, and periodicals. Most books are available for loan. We do not charge fines and loan periods for older material are generous. Staff are available to assist you in your research. A pleasant place to work, relax or read a book- fresh tea and coffee are available. Access to our Georgian building (built 1752), and its unique city centre garden. Opportunity to join occasional Saturday morning lectures and social events or visits, and see our regular exhibitions in our Gallery space.

7 Membership Membership allows the member and any resident adult family full use of the Library services and facilities. Under sixteens are welcome if accompanied. The annual subscription is 80 (Country and student membership 42.50). Country membership applies to members who live 50 miles or more away. Membership commences each year on 1 April- members joining mid year pay a proportionally reduced subscription initially. There is no joining fee. We request that members complete a direct debit instruction in favour of the Library to meet the annual subscription. For security purposes we require the names and postal addresses of two independent referees from whom we can take a reference. If you would like to visit the Library before joining, please telephone or visit the library and request to join one of our new members introductory tours which are organised on a regular basis. There is a fee of 5 for these which is deducted from your subscription when you join. Alternatively you may attend one after your application is successful. Gift membership is available- please speak to a member of staff requesting the appropriate form. Please complete the attached application and the direct debit form and return them to the Library. After satisfactory references have been received we will write to you welcoming you as a member.

8 Useful Information It usually takes three to four weeks for an application to be completed. For ease of administration members are admitted on a monthly basis, so you would usually hear from us in the second week of the month. There may be a slightly longer wait if your referees are unable to reply to us promptly, but we will do our best to ensure that new members do not have to wait too long to join the library.
