1 Jesse Byrer

2 Jesse Byrer got into the finance bus iness in 2002 as a wholesale lender. He moved on to become a successful loan officer and has made a name for himself in the industry. On getting in the business Jesse shares, I noticed my friends were doing well in the business. My identical twin brother, Jonas, got into the industry first, and that s when I decided to follow suit. We got our start as wholesale representatives, but we both went in different directions when the market collapsed in Jonas moved on to work for a bank and I decided to be a loan officer for a mortgage broker. Currently, Jesse is a licensed loan officer in Illinois, Indiana,

3 Jesse Byrer Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Texas and serves as the branch manager of Prospect Mortgage in Schaumburg, Illinois. He has 18 loan officers who report to him and manages one of the top branches in the country. Jesse and his twin brother now work alongside each other at the firm. We joke we are the mortgage brothers kind of like the HGTV show called Property Brothers, Jesse says with a laugh. I bring in the business and he closes it out. When the financial collapse occurred in 2007 lending all but dried up and there was a mass exit to the lending industry. Jesse saw this as an opportunity to provide a level of professionalism and expertise greatly needed with the void left by the subprime lenders. He focused on the underserved foreclosure and short sale segment of the housing market. There was a significant increase in the number foreclosures and distressed houses that hit the street in the wake of the housing market crash. Jesse states, It seemed like everyone was advertising they had rehab loans to help people buy these REO homes, but no one knew how to get them closed. From 2007 to 2010 I worked for a mortgage broker and I found myself teaching and explaining to the underwriters how these rehab loans worked. Most of my competitors didn t know how to do them so they would actually tell people these loans don t close and to buy a different property. How crazy is that!?!? The real estate agent had sold the property, the buyer wanted the home, and the lender told them there wasn t a way to get the home financed and told them to keep searching. Once I proved myself to some of the major REO listing agents in the market the word spread like fire! I quickly became the go to guy for rehab lending. Not only did I become the go to lender for properties needing improvements, but I started to get referrals from other lenders and banks. That is when my career took off. Since then, he have spent

4 the past seven years perfecting and becoming proficient at helping people buy foreclosures, but also buying homes that are simply outdated. Jesse and his team are experts in rehab lending by utilizing such loans as the Federal Housing Administration s (FHA) 203 (k) Loan and Fannie Mae s Homestyle Loan. In 2010, broker relationships were taking that program away. That s when Prospect Mortgage recruited me, and I have been with them since. Jesse explains, I work with first-time home buyers as well as real estate investors. If you are going to be successful in this business, it is important to learn how to serve everybody. It s about creating awareness and helping people. I m passionate about restoring the confidence of investing in real estate and enjoy explaining the numbers and logistics as to why real estate is still a good investment for homeowners and investors. I like helping people buy foreclosures or homes with dated designs and show them how they can create significant equity (wealth). Most real estate investors aren t even aware that they can buy properties and pay for the improvements using a rehab loan. They think they have to pay cash or use hard money or private money to buy these properties and that s simply not the case. Whether someone is buying a REO property, fixer upper, or a home with a dates design, as long as you have the right team, most of the stress and risk can be taken out of the transaction.

6 When asking what clients enjoy about working with him, Jesse says, I em brace technology and all forms of communication whether it be by phone, text, or face-to-face. I m flexible and am knowledgeable about diverse products. Jesse adds, I try to run to an opportunity but run even faster to a problem. As long as you show clients you are genuine in your efforts to resolve the matter, they respect that. When Jesse is on his off hours, he likes spending time with his family, helping the community and playing golf. He says, I like taking vaca tions with my family, and I m al ways looking for different ways to contribute to a variety of charitable causes. I am an active guy and grew up playing football and basketball. Being from in Indiana, I was pretty much born with a basketball in hand, he laughs.
