1 I-20 APPLICATION In order for us to issue a Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) for you to use to apply for an F-1 visa at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate, you must complete PAGE 3 of this form to document that sufficient funds will be available to you throughout your course of study. Incomplete information or lack of supporting documentation will delay issuance of an I-20 until all documentation is received. This form with any ORIGINAL accompanying documents (not photocopies) must be returned directly to the following address with a copy of your passport identification page(s): Franklin & Marshall College, Office of International Programs, P.O. 2 II. ADDRESS INFORMATION In order to issue an I-20, you must indicate a specific non-u.s. address that is not a post office box. This will be entered into SEVIS (the F1 student tracking system). You will provide the mailing address for your I-20 in the last section of this document. CERTIFICATION OF FUNDS PLEASE READ! VERY IMPORTANT! Document below (on PAGE 3) the amount and sources of funding for your academic program. The annual total must be at least $65,840. Any combination of sources is acceptable. Each source of funding must provide the appropriate ORIGINAL current/recent financial documents. Please note that any documents older than six months will be considered expired. All amounts should be in U.S. dollars. If this is problematic, please attach a conversion for the bank account balance or salary to the document from an on-line currency converter like If you have MULTIPLE SPONSORS (EXAMPLE - parents and grandparents), you must complete the Affidavit of Support on Page 4 for each. You must also submit financial documentation for each sponsor. This is a bank statement and proof of future income. On our website you can download and print an additional Affidavit of Support for this purpose: You may use the same totals for each of the four years since at this time we do not know the exact fees for Years 2, 3, and 4. A Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) cannot be issued until this form is completed and returned to the Office of International Programs with all of the appropriate supporting documents. Funds may be assured by several sources if necessary. You must document the funds you will have available to pay for four years of study. 3 FINANCIAL AID IN FUTURE YEARS If the College s standard tuition, fees, room and board charges change in future academic years, your financial aid will be adjusted to reflect those changes. Your contribution, which was used to determine your need-based financial aid, will remain consistent through your four years and will not change regardless of your circumstances as long as you accept all aid sources. Please plan your educational finances accordingly. (Total fees minus any financial aid equals bank balance.) Please do not account for future savings here. o For FAMILY INCOME, usually a letter(s) from the employer(s) documenting the nature of the sponsor or sponsors employment including title and salary. If the family owns a business, a letter from an accountant will suffice documenting annual earnings. If the family has rental properties, proof of monthly rent received must be received. Please note that by law, a student s sponsor must demonstrate future income to pay for years two, three, and four, in order for the I-20 to be issued. An exception can be made here if the sponsor can show that he/she has enough money in the bank to cover the expected family contribution for all four years at this time. o For FAMILY PERSONAL LOAN, an official award letter from the loan company documenting the amount of the loan for each year of study. o For ORGANIZATION/GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP, a copy of the award letter from the organization. The letter must specify the amount of money that is being provided to you and that the award is valid for each year of study. o For FRANKLIN & MARSHALL COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID, a copy of the award letter. o For OTHER, please list any additional sources of financial support that don t fit into our categories. below: Please describe 3 of 5
