5 Green Banking Bank Asia Reported as one of the Top 10 commercial Banks for our contribution to Green Banking as Reported by Bangladesh Bank in June 2012 Since its inception, Bank Asia invariably sought to provide superior services to its clients and stakeholders. We aspire to establish ourselves as a prominent institution that will operate to reach our long term strategic objective to be a green, triple bottom line bank where every decision will be taken with both fi nancial and environmental considerations in mind. Our untiring effort and fi rm dedication towards protecting the environment enabled us to achieve a position among the top ten commercial banks for our contribution to Green Banking in We operate in such an industry where we play an intermediary role between economic development and conservation of the environment. Our Green Banking activities are on multidimensional areas which include both in-house environment management and green fi nancing: In the fi rst six months of 2012 we have disbursed Tk million for different types of crop fi nancing through our Rural and Agriculture branch. We have lent Tk million for installation of Effl uent Treatment Plant that will help to reduce the discharge of untreated factory waste water into the rivers. We have disbursed Tk. 10 million for the installation of 650 Solar Home Systems (SHS) to provide electricity in the off-grid areas of our country. Our Cards Department has formally launched its digital fi lling system where more than 200,000 pages of various fi les have been digitally archived and indexed it for digital query. We celebrated World Environment Day on 5th June 2012, by arranging a workshop on Green Banking. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Md. Mehmood Husain, President and Managing Director of the Bank and the key speaker was Dr. Shah Md. Ahsan Habib, Professor & Director (training) of Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM). Senior offi cials of the Bank located in Dhaka city and concurrently senior offi cials of Chittagong Zonal Offi ce also participated in the workshop through video conferencing. We have scores of challenges ahead and we have already entered into the second phase of the Green Banking Policy Guideline. In the future years we aim to focus into Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and projects that will reduce carbon footprint. We want to take a groundbreaking role in developing Environment Auditing Skill, creating a HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) Management system and develop and rollout ERM (Environmental Risk Management) protocol. 6 Sustainable Banking Operations: Key Highlights from January to June Children got their sights fully restored through our fi nancial assistance in ophthalmological operations. 33,523 Farmers and rural people supported fi nancially through our Agricultural credit. 650 Households brought under Home solar system and disbursed Tk.10 million for this purpose. 63,293 Households of rural and semi urban areas received remittance of Tk.1,662 million in 2012 through our MFIs network. 2,000 Rural students imparted in ICT training from 45 Computer learning centers and borne expense of Tk.0.60 Million in ,179 E-statements delivered to customer. 4,334 Cheques cleared per day through online processing. 365 Poor but meritorious students received higher study scholarship. 8,202 Man Hours of training in 2012 for development of our Human Capital % Cash transaction transferred from over the counter tellers to ATM. 2 Half Yearly Financial Position 2012
