It typically takes several weeks fr all parties invlved t cmplete, review, sign and submit the required paperwrk. When defining the prgram begin date fr yur visiting schlar, please cnsider internal prcessing time (minimum f 10 days), as well as visa prcessing time (visa prcessing can take apprximately 30 days). If further U.S. Department f State (DOS) administrative prcessing is necessary, a minimum f 90 days culd be required. SEVIS requires schlars t enter the U.S. within the start date listed n the DS 2019; visiting schlars may nt arrive mre than 30 days after the prgram start date. It is imprtant that visiting schlars maintain lawful J 1 status during their prgram at Missuri S&T. Failure t cmply with requirements may affect the schlar s ability t remain in r return t the United States. English Language Prficiency Requirement [22 CFR 62.11(a)(2)]: DOS requires visiting schlars t have sufficient prficiency in the English language, as determined by an bjective measurement f English language prficiency, successfully t participate in his r her prgram and t functin n a day t day basis. DS 2019 Frm: Visa dcumentatin sent t prspective visiting schlars is legally binding. The prgram must be cnducted n the Missuri S&T campus. The prgram must be suitable t the visiting schlar s backgrund, needs and experience and must meet the intent f the requested J 1 prgram categry. All infrmatin submitted will be made available t the apprpriate gvernment agency in the event f audit r request. Visiting schlar psitins cannt be ffered as tenure track psitins. Mandatry Insurance: Visiting schlars and accmpanying dependents must maintain insurance that cvers sickness r accident fr the duratin f their prgram. As prgram spnsr, DOS requires Missuri S&T OICA t terminate a visiting schlar s participatin in ur prgram if it is determined the participant and/r any dependent willfully fails t remain in cmpliance with mandatry insurance requirements. There can be n breaks in insurance cverage, as this will result in a vilatin t immigratin status. At a minimum, DOS specifies that the insurance cverage must include: 1. $100,000 Medical benefits per persn per accident/illness 2. $25,000 Repatriatin f remains 3. $50,000 Expenses assciated with medical evacuatin 4. $500 Maximum deductible per accident/illness
