4 1. Qualitative Information on the Quarterly Results (1) Explanation regarding Business Results Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (3099) The Japanese economy during the first quarter of fiscal 2016 (April 1, 2016 to June 30, 2016) continued to tread water even though the employment situation remained firm. In the retailing sector as well, in addition to sluggish domestic consumer spending, inbound tourist demand which had been favorable was below year-earlier levels owing to yen appreciation and an import duty hike in China, etc., thus leading to a very harsh environment. Against this backdrop, the Group focused its resources and know-how it has built up over many years in working toward the goal of becoming the indispensable department store for each individual customer throughout his or her life by continually creating high-quality, new lifestyles and being of use to our customers in their many different roles in life; and by so doing, becoming the world s foremost retail and services group with high profitability and sustained growth. We continued to take measures to create new value capable of gaining worldwide recognition. As a result, consolidated net sales for the first quarter amounted to 294,646 million, a decrease of 4.9% from the first quarter of the previous fiscal year; operating income amounted to 6,062 million, a decrease of 47.7%; recurring income was 7,339 million, a decrease of 43.8%; and net income attributable to parent company shareholders was 4,954 million, a decrease of 43.5%. Results by segment were as follows. 1) Department Store Business In the department store business, we introduced Group shared point programs in April and started T Points service in May in an effort to improve customer convenience and we also took measures to offer new value embodying the spirit of the Isetan Mitsukoshi Group. With regard to the Purchasing Structure Innovation that the whole Group has been promoting, we took it a step further by expanding our original women s shoes brand NUMBER TWENTY-ONE inside and outside the Group. Also, in JAPAN SENSES, which began to be held four times a year from the current fiscal year as a campaign under our corporate message this is japan. we set AO NO BI as the theme for this spring. By tying up with the Setouchi Triennale 2016 held at the same time, we presented a wide variety of goods and cultures. At the Mitsukoshi Nihombashi main store, we turned to Mr. Genichiro Inokuma, a designer from Kagawa Prefecture who designed the wrapping paper of the Mitsukoshi department store, and proposed original products inspired by the HANA-HIRAKU design printed on this wrapping paper. In the summer, under the theme AKA NO BI, we introduced chic summer fashion and lifestyles. At the Isetan Shinjuku Main Store, with the theme of Natsu-matsuri, we presented Mono-Koto on an unprecedented scale to help revitalize the nation through fashion. At the Mitsukoshi Nihombashi Main Store, while advancing measures to create a new department store as a base for spreading Japanese culture under our Culture Resort Department Store concept, the main building was designated as an important cultural property in May. Aiming to complete a store where customers can enjoy immersing themselves in Japanese culture, we will remodel the whole building in sequence starting in 2017, commissioning the architect Mr. Kengo Kuma to come up with its design. As for the regional department stores, in fiscal 2015 we remodeled and reopened the Sapporo Marui Imai and Sapporo Mitsukoshi stores. In addition to the opening of the medium-scale airport-style duty-free store FUKUOKA DUTY FREE TENJIN at Fukuoka Mitsukoshi in April, we plan to remodel the Nagoya Mitsukoshi Sakae Store to strengthen each of our sales bases mainly in the regional metropolitan areas. We continue to open small to medium-size stores, in measures to expand customer contact points by developing our strength in organization and opening up new marketing channels. We have opened a total of 13 stores under the luxury cosmetics outlet ISETAN MiRROR format mainly in the greater Tokyo metropolitan area and 29 stores under the self-coordinated MI PLAZA format all over Japan. In addition, we opened a medium-size select store Isetan House in Nagoya in March, in addition to Roppongi and Marunouchi. In autumn 2016, we will open our fourth airport-style small-size outlet Isetan Centrair Store at Chubu International Airport, which have previously been operated only at Haneda Airport. In our online business, we improved customer convenience by increasing the number of campaigns organized jointly with the three flagship stores, and expanding the number of products offered. In June, we opened a luxury online store called NOREN NOREN ISETAN MITSUKOSHI in an effort to further expand our online business. In our overseas business, we are preparing for the opening of specialty stores named The Japan Store, which will start providing Japanese lifestyle and aesthetics to customers in Kuala Lumpur and Paris in autumn As a result, segment sales amounted to 269,591 million, a decrease of 5.9% from the first quarter of the previous fiscal year, and operating income was 1,977 million, a decrease of 75.2% from the first quarter of the previous fiscal year. 2

(3099) 2) Credit & Finance Business/Customer Organization Management Business In the Credit & Finance Business/Customer Organization Management Business, MICARD Co., Ltd. has been running campaigns to expand external use and cultivate new franchise member stores. It has also been working towards the issuance of membership cards including VIORO Card at VIORO, a commercial facility in Tenjin area, Fukuoka from June, which will then be followed by an issuance of Nomura Real Estate Group Customer Club Gold Card in October. Also, in April, we enabled the transfer of individual cardholder points to Group shared point programs and began the exchange of miles with major airline carriers. Through these and other measures, we are working to improve customer convenience. As a result, segment sales amounted to 9,824 million, an increase of 3.9% from the first quarter of the previous fiscal year, while operating income was 2,679 million, an increase of 12.0% from the first quarter of the previous fiscal year. 3) Other Retail & Specialty Store Business In the other retail & specialty store business, Isetan Mitsukoshi Food Service Ltd. is developing food specialty supermarkets centered in the greater Tokyo metropolitan area, aiming to have one of the country s broadest food selections. In April, the Queen s Isetan Senkawa Store was remodeled and reopened as a store that proposes a new style of supermarket by giving an utmost impression of freshness, live atmosphere and exceptional cleanliness through face-to-face service to customers. As a result, segment sales amounted to 13,363 million, an increase of 1.0% from the first quarter of the previous fiscal year, and the operating loss was 495 million, compared to an operating loss of 375 million for the first quarter of the previous fiscal year. 4) Real Estate Business In the real estate business, we aggressively expand our construction and installation businesses carried on by Isetan Mitsukoshi Property Design Ltd. in the Tokyo area, where the Olympics and Paralympics are to be held, and in the Hokkaido and the Kyoto and Osaka areas, where inbound tourist demand is expected to rise. In addition, we are promoting the leasing business through developing ALTA stores in Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, Harajuku and other locations. In addition to expanding the properties under management in its traditional rental management business, Isetan Mitsukoshi Real Estate Co., Ltd. is advancing the joint condominium business with capital and business partner Nomura Real Estate Development Co., Ltd. As a result, segment sales amounted to 9,358 million, a decrease of 11.6% from the first quarter of the previous fiscal year, and operating income was 1,407 million, a decrease of 9.0% from the first quarter of the previous fiscal year. 5) Other Businesses In the other businesses, we continue to develop highly original new businesses to realize our aim of being of use to our customers in their many different roles in life. At Isetan Mitsukoshi Plan Do See Co., Ltd. and Isetan Mitsukoshi Transit Co., Ltd. which were established in the previous fiscal year, we are working to launch restaurant and bridal business. In addition, the investment company Isetan Mitsukoshi Innovations Ltd., which was established in January, made an investment in a start-up company running electronic gift services. Furthermore, in April, we established Mitsukoshi Isetan TMarketing Ltd., a joint business with Culture Convenience Club Co., Ltd., which operates the T Points system, to take on the challenge of creating new businesses. As a result, segment sales amounted to 17,908 million, an increase of 17.5% from the first quarter of the previous fiscal year, and operating income was 419 million, compared to an operating loss of 152 million for the first quarter of the previous fiscal year. (2) Explanation regarding Financial Performance Total assets at the end of the first quarter of the fiscal year amounted to 1,253,976 million, a decrease of 39,067 million from the end of the previous fiscal year. This was due mainly to decreases in cash and deposits as well as notes and accounts receivable-trade. Total liabilities amounted to 685,040 million, a decrease of 33,686 million from the end of the previous fiscal year. This was mainly attributable to a decrease in accounts payable. Net assets amounted to 568,935 million, a decrease of 5,380 million from the end of the previous fiscal year. This was mainly attributable to an increase in retained earnings due to recording of net income attributable to parent company shareholders, offset by decreases in net unrealized gains on other securities and foreign currency translation adjustments.
