5 Incorporation and domicile Foodbank of South Australia Incorporated ( the Association ) is incorporated and domiciled in Australia. The address of the registered office is 377A Cross Road, Edwardstown, SA Nature of the entity s operations and its principal activities The Association is an independent South Australian not-for-profit organisation that sources donations of food and groceries and purchases selected staple foods from the food industry for distribution to welfare agencies. Note 1 Summary of significant accounting policies In the directors opinion, the company is not a reporting entity because there are no users dependent on general purpose financial reports. This is a special purpose financial report that has been prepared for the sole purpose of complying with the Associations Incorporations Act 1985 (SA) requirements to prepare and distribute a financial report to the members and must not be used for any other purpose. The financial report has been prepared in accordance with the recognition and measurement principles of Australian Accounting Standards and Interpretations issued by the Australian Accounting Standards Board. It contains only those disclosures considered necessary by the directors to meet the needs of the members. Foodbank of South Australia Incorporated is a not-for-profit entity for the purpose of preparing the financial statements. The financial statement has been prepared on an accruals basis and is based on historical costs unless otherwise stated. The financial statement has been prepared on the basis that the Association will continue to meets its commitments and can therefore continue normal business activities and the realisation of assets and liabilities in the ordinary course of the business. Functional and presentation currency The financial statement is presented in Australian dollars, which is the Association's functional currency. The accounting policies that have been adopted in the preparation of these statements are as follows: a) Taxation The Association is endorsed as an Income Tax Exempt Charity under sub-division 50-B of the Income Tax Assessment Act b) Depreciation Depreciation is calculated on a straight-line basis to write off the cost of all plant and equipment over its expected useful life. The depreciation charge commences from the date the items are installed and ready for use. Leasehold improvements are amortised over the shorter of either the unexpired term of the lease or the estimated useful life of the improvements. c) Property, plant and equipment Property, Plant and Equipment is recorded at its written down value which is the original cost minus the accumulated depreciation. d) Cash Cash comprises cash at bank, cash on hand and short term deposits with a maturity date of three months or less, that are readily convertible to known amounts of cash and which are subject to an insignificant risk of changes in value. e) Inventory Inventories held for distribution are measured at cost, adjusted when applicable for any loss of service potential. f) Leases Operating lease payments are recognised as an expense in the statement of comprehensive income on a straight-line basis over the lease term. Lease incentives are recognised in the statement of comprehensive income as an integral part of the total expense. g) Interest bearing liabilities All loans and borrowings are initially recognised at the fair value of the consideration received less directly attributable transaction costs. Borrowings are classified as current liabilities unless the Association has an unconditional right to defer settlement of the liability for at least 12 months. h) Receivables Receivables are recognised as the amount due less any allowance for doubtful debts. i) Payables Payables are recognised when the Association becomes obliged to make future payments resulting from the purchase of goods and services.

6 j) Employee benefits Provision has been made for employee benefits estimated to be payable to employees on the basis of statutory and contractual requirements. The provision is calculated at undiscounted amounts based on remuneration rates that the Association expects to pay as at the reporting date. k) Revenue recognition Revenue is recognised on an accruals basis in accordance with the substance of the transaction. l) Goods and Services Tax (GST) Revenues, expenses and assets are recognised net of GST, except where the amount of GST incurred is not recoverable from the Tax Office. In that case the amounts are recognised inclusive of any GST. m) Contributions and donations Contributions and cash donations are recognised as revenue when the Association obtains control over the assets comprising the contributions. Control over granted assets is normally obtained upon their receipt or notification that a grant has been secured.
