1 Special Circumstances Form Occasionally, unusual circumstances exist that may warrant reconsideration of financial aid eligibility. If the information you reported on your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) does not accurately reflect your current situation, please submit this form along with any additional documentation to Washington College Office of Student Financial Aid. Due to changes in the federal regulations regarding privacy issues, we can no longer accept any documentation by . All documents must be sent by fax ( ), mail or delivered in person. Before our office can consider your circumstances, you must have filed the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA). Please note that the following ARE NOT CONSIDERED special circumstances: Credit Card Debt Car Loans, Repairs, Insurance Private School Tuition Private Lessons Self-employment Taxes Legal Expenses Sibling College Expenses Medical Expenses Covered by Insurance Debt Repayment Plans To qualify for any Special Circumstances review, YOU MUST: Complete the FAFSA and have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) greater than zero Write a letter explaining your situation Provide all additional requested documentation, based on your circumstance (see list below) Complete the Verification Worksheet (Part II) and provide the required 2017 documentation o 2017 Tax Return Transcript(s) for you and your parents o Copies of all 2017 W-2 and 1099 forms for you and your parents Signed copy of 2018 Tax Return or Tax Return Transcript for the student and parent(s) Copy of 2018 W2 and 1099 forms for the student and parent(s) Please Check A. Parent worked full-time in 2017 but has been unable to pursue work for at least 10 weeks during 2017 because of natural disaster or disability. Generally, the 2017 AGI should be at least 20% less than the actual 2015 AGI before submitting documentation. 3 PART II Special Circumstances Academic Year Verification Worksheet What should you do? Submit the completed and signed Verification Worksheet and copies of the following documents: Get Transcript by Mail- Go to click Get Your Tax Record. Click Get Transcript by Mail. Make sure to request the RETURN TRANSCRIPT. The transcript is generally received within 10 business days from the IRS s receipt of the online request. Get Transcript Online- Go to click Get Your Tax Record. Click Get transcript. Make sure to request the RETURN TRANSCRIPT. To use the Get Transcript Online tool, the user must have (1) access to a valid address, (2) a text-enabled mobile phone in the user s name, and (3) specific financial account numbers (such as a credit card number or an account number for a mortgage or auto loan). The transcript displays online upon successful completion of the IRS s two-step authentication. Automated Telephone Request Transcript is generally received within 10 business days from the IRS s receipt of the telephone request. OR Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) to transfer the 2017 tax information to the FAFSA. If you are eligible to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, we highly recommend that you use it.
