1 STOCK MARKET GAME 2010 INVESTWRITE TOP CLASS ESSAYS: December 3, 2010 Congrats to our InvestWrite class-level essay winners: Jack Brandes My group s experience with the Stock Market Game had a good turnout! Our total equity went up around four and a half thousand dollars from our original hundred thousand. We bought a variety of six different stocks and followed the Tennessee Rule. We used different tools to research what we purchased before we actually did. We used tools like Google Finance and ETRADE. Google Finance was great for history with charts while ETRADE was helpful for advice and warnings for certain stocks. Our portfolio so far is very interesting our total equity is $104,487.30, and we have bought many shares of different companies. The first thing we thought to buy was All Scripts, a health company. We were interested at the review on ETRADE so we bought 400 shares. Next we bought Ford after chatting about products we liked to buy. We were very confident in this company so we bought 500 shares. Next we bought Dollar Tree stock. We looked it up on Google Finance and it seemed safe and not risky. We then proceeded to purchase 100 shares of McDonald's. This was the one purchase that made us loose money, but we recovered. We then bought more Dollar Tree stock because it outperformed. Lately we have bought a little Yum! stock and Southwest Airlines stock. One company that benefited us a lot was Ford. It steadily grew over time. Since 2010 it has been shooting up. Luckily right around when we bought it got very expensive. We earned lots of money. It was very safe and there was little risk. It is very widely and heavily traded. They have a good business and great public perception for quality and safety in their automobiles. We bought more of this stock during the Stock Market Game because of the opportunity to make more money. Overall, Ford is a safe, reliable, and great company! A company I have had bad experiences with is Bank of America. In the real Stock Market I have lost one hundred dollars and was forced to sell recently. It goes up and down unpredictably and wildly. This makes it very risky. It is also in a tough are in the stock market. Most banks are going out of business. It is starting to get a bad public reputation. So we know that Bank of America is a much less safe and risky choice compared to Ford. My portfolio has variety and worth to it. I have successfully made thousands of dollars. I also followed the Tennessee Rule! I bought different amounts of many stocks during the time. From experience and research I have learned that Ford is a safer company than Bank of America. I have learned a lot! I used ETRADE and Google Finance to help me make my choices. I have done well with the play money I was given, so I met my goal of gaining money during the Stock Market Game. 2 Ryan Requierme The stock market game was a great opportunity for 6th graders to learn real-life stock dealing. My team consists of four people, and our jobs were to check the money equities on our team-scheduled days. Our current ranking as of is 12th highest amount of money out of 71 teams in Tennessee. I think that has to do with mostly research, and some luck. Our portfolio consists of seven stocks including Georgia pwr (GAT), Apple Inc. (Appl), General Electric Company (GE), PepsiCo Inc. (PEP), Ford motor company (F), General Mills (GIS), and Netflix (NFLX). We bought shares according to any increase of percentage to daily change. Our tools were Google Finance.com, and we looked at yearly earnings. We also avoided penny stocks. We also avoided risky stocks, and bought safe ones. If the daily gain or loss was a small percentage low we bought it because the increase of rate would go up. Most of our stocks that we bought were familiar to us because we knew their product. Whole foods (WFMI) is the safe company that I chose to be the safe company. I chose that because from to the stock price went up (71.26%). According to Benzinga.com, analysts think this increased because of healthy eating, the welfare of animals, and sustainable seafood. Whole foods expects there to be a 10% to12%increase in The not-so-safe company I chose was Kroger company. From to it increased only (12.37%). According to Zacks.com, Kroger was one of the five companies in food- retail industry with a highest debt-to-capital-ratio, which means : how a company is funded, and its financial strength compared to similar companies. The stock market game was great, and I am glad my team is 12th best ranked. This experience has made me want to deal with stocks when I am older. I also had fun getting to compare two stocks. I also think everyone in my class likes this game. BIBLIOGRAPHY: Google Finance. com, Zacks.com, Benzinga.com

3 Noah Hubbell Wow, I learned so much from playing the Stock Market Game. The Stock Market Game taught me a lot about how the Stock Market works, and some strategies about buying stocks. The Stock Market Game is a computerized program where we buy stocks, of course we don't really buy stocks but is shows what would happen if we did. We worked In teams of 3-4 people to help us reassure what we are doing. Our team had a total equity of 100,000 to start with and 100,000 dollars but it went up and down a whole lot. As of we had 103, equity and 37, cash. We bought Nike, Comcast, Apple, Coca Cola, Walgreen's, PepsiCo and Wal-Mart, Apple did the best and PepsiCo did the worst. We had to find at least 1 good and 1 bad stock and tell about them I will tell my good stock first. A good stock that we bought was Apple or APPL is the ticker symbol. Even though apple costs a whole lot it is going up increasingly, in fact, Apple was the best stock that we bought, we have gained exactly $3, with apple. A reason they might be going up is there new I pad that everyone wants and apple charges a lot for it. A bad stock to buy is PepsiCo. We bought PepsiCo too but we lost -$557.22, which was our worst company. We thought we should buy PepsiCo because they have Quaker Oats and Pepsi. It might have dropped because it looked pretty good increasing steadily. The 1 good thing is it wasn't a penny stock. So in conclusion the Stock Market Game is a computerized program that taught me a lot about buying stocks. It has Taught me many strategies about how to buy stocks. If we do this again I am going to buy apple and STAY AWAY from PepsiCo.

4 Sydney Tall During the Stock Market Game, our team had a great effort to save our money. We learned how to purchase, view, and use a company s stock. We bought seven companies to invest stock in. Most of them were good, and some of them were bad. But in result, we made good progress in the game. For our teams portfolio, we bought seven companies: Walgreens, Nike, Comcast, PepsiCo, Wal-Mart, Apple, and the Coca-Kola Company. To learn about our companies stock, we used Google Finance and The Stock Market Game website. Google Finance gave us information about how a company s stock went up or down, and gave us a look at the stock s history. It helped us buy the stock, and gave us a decision to buy the stock or not. By looking at a line graph, if the company s stock was at a high rate, we didn t decide on it because it might go down a lot. If we bought a stock at a low rate, it would go up, and give us money. And of course, the Stock Market Game website was a great website to use because it is the website for the game. It tells us if our stock is going up or down, and tells us our daily equity. If we didn t have it, nor if anyone did not, we couldn t play the game. One of our best companies was Apple, Inc. It was always at a high rate. My teammates would highly recommend this company to invest in because it was always high, and it is very popular. It comes out with new products very frequently, and it makes a large statement in technology with new and improved ideas. The other good companies are Wal-Mart, Walgreens, and The Coca-Cola Company. We bought Wal-Mart and Walgreens because there are frequent shoppers. Wal-Mart and Walgreens are both at a good stock rate to invest in, and especially since Black Friday is coming up. Both stores might go up really high, but probably won t go down completely due to early Christmas shopping. Coca-Cola is a good company to invest in because it has two popular drinks, which are Coca-Cola and Sprite. And when going to a store or grocery store, they are most of the time on-sale and are in a mini refrigerator near every aisle of checkout counters. And of course, just like every Stock Market team, we had bad stock. They weren t that bad, they just didn t make a lot of money like we needed. But they did make some money. But the worst out of those three were PepsiCo. I don t know why this company s stock could ve been so low. But it could be because Pepsi is way more expensive than Coca- Cola, and it is most of the time not on sale. Nike was second to last. It was maybe because their shoes and equipment are expensive, and are not that popular like other brands. And Comcast was before Nike. I think Comcast was there because maybe more people are switching to AT&T. But that may not be the case. Since it s newest thing, Xfinity, came out, it should get more people to join in. TV channels are being taken off of regular TV. At the same time, we recommend these companies, because of Black Friday; cable boxes, but at the same time, we recommend not to buy these companies because Black Friday doesn t apply to all of the companies, and nothing really extravagant ever happens to them, and they don t come out with frequent products often. So from the Stock Market game, we can conclude that your goal is to buy high, and if selling, sell low. It is also to buy good companies, and then buy smaller companies to invest in. So, if you chose to use stock later, you can make good money. Bibliography: Beginner Investing, Learn to Invest Money. Beverly Hills Computer, Web. 29 Nov Beck, By Robyn. 6 Augusto Diedrich My experience in the Stock Market Game helped me. It helped me for the future. It taught me t be organized. I also became a little better at math because I added and subtracted money. So I m glad that the Stock Market Game came in. What did I need to help me? The most useful tool I used was Google finance. Because it told me if its going up or down the price. It also tells me the price of the company. Another resourceful tool was simply the Internet. I look the company up on the Internet and look its progress, gains, and losses. Also what the company does and stuff. A good company that I thought was well in progress was Amazon. Amazon has a reasonable price. It goes up most of the time. It is a good company because I have actual interest. A not very good company in progress now could be Apple. Apple is a company that when I see on Google finance it is going down. Its price is not really reasonable because it s always going down. My dad has experience in it and he has lots of problems with his ipods and computers. So that s a company that I think is doing poorly. So the Stock Market Game taught me I have to be very RESPONSIBLE!!!!!!!! It taught me how to deal with finances when I m older. It also taught me not to waste money. So that is why the Stock Market Game is handy!
