2 Eligibility & Funding Establishment of account High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) required Eligibility to participate Any employer (our clients plans are limited to governmental employers, including school districts) NO Employee who meets employer s defined eligibility criteria Eligible individual Employer Integrate with employersponsored Section 125 Plan YES For 2011 and 2012: $1,200 deductible (self only) $2,400 deductible (family) Eligible employee/individual covered by HDHP and no other non HDHP coverage Eligibility & Funding (continued) Funding an account Employer* Individual Employee salary reduction dollars Employer Maximum contribution No maximum For 2011 and 2012: Individual $3,100 Family $6,250 *Source funds are often from mandatory employee contributions, sick leave cash outs (annual or at retirement), other leave cash outs, etc. Taxation Taxation of contributions No federal or state income tax* or Social Security/Medicare tax No federal or state income tax* or Social Security/Medicare tax Taxation of Tax free freeifassets are held ina tax Tax free/deferred free/deferredcompensation earnings (assuming assets exempt trust withdrawals for non medical expenses result in federal and/or state income tax, plus an excise invested) tax if before age 65 FICA (payroll tax) savings /No *State taxes could apply in some states. 2
