10 Social Security System and Employee Benefits There are three independent systems: Pensions Health Occupational Health & Safety and Workmen s Compensation

11 Pension Colombian pension system has dual public-private competitive schemes: A state-managed, defined benefit scheme, Instituto de los Seguros Sociales (ISS) A privately managed defined contribution scheme, Pension Fund Administrators (Administradoras de Fondos de Pensiones AFP s) Employees can switch between public and private system every five years.

13 Health Health care system has two components: Private System (PS) (Employees with a contract or independent workers with the ability to pay) Subsidized System (SS) (People without the ability to pay) The insurance component is based on Health Promotion Company (EPS Entidad Promotora de Salud) offering the mandatory basic health care plan called POS (Plan Obligatorio de Salud).

14 Occupational Health and Safety Workmen s compensation Occupational health care and safety is offered by insurance companies known as Occupational Risk Administrators. Premiums are all paid by the employer according to the company s economic activity and risk classification.
