During S&SP focus groups last year, we heard you loud and clear about your needs regarding retirement planning. You had great feedback and many questions, including: How do I know how much I need to save for retirement? How can I determine which investments make sense for me? How can I find money to put away for retirement? What if I need to also pay for things like college or a wedding? How could my investment decisions affect what I earn on my savings? In addition to the many existing S&SP educational tools, we ll be offering a variety of new resources to help answer these questions and more. 2 page 2 Check out these resources for a smoother retirement process The retirement process can seem overwhelming. Lots of decisions and lots of paperwork, right? Well, not necessarily. We have some great resources that can help reduce your paperwork and smooth out the process. eretire With the help of the electronic eretire program, the retirement process can be streamlined from start to finish and completed entirely online! eretire guides you through important steps such as initiating retirement, making your pension and benefits elections, and reviewing a list of documents needed in order to begin your pension. Everything happens in real-time, eliminating the delay of waiting for papers to arrive in the mail. Please note: You should only use eretire when you want to begin the formal retirement process. If you would like to estimate your pension benefit, please use the Pension Profile tool. What you need to consider when retiring The Retirement Training Course is another resource that is designed to provide you with an overview of the general retirement process. This two-part guide is a roadmap that provides tools and information to help you with your retirement decisions. 3 page 3 Health care reform update You ve probably heard about the health care reform law, officially called the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Starting January 1, 2014, the law will require Americans to have health insurance whether they access it through an employer, a private insurance company or the government. What to expect in the coming months GE will send information about 2014 Annual Enrollment this fall. You may hear information about Health Insurance Marketplaces, often referred to as exchanges. Employees and their dependents, eligible to enroll in GE s health benefit programs, are not required to take action with respect to these exchanges. GE will continue to provide updates as additional information regarding the health care reform law becomes available. goto benefits App Get all of your GE pay- and benefits-related numbers and Web sites on one mobile site. Now, you and your family can easily connect at home or on-the-go! To install on your mobile device: Go to /gotobenefits and bookmark the page or add to homescreen. Annual Enrollment simplification Annual Enrollment for 2014 will be October 21 through November 15 We ve heard your feedback and we are simplifying Annual Enrollment with streamlined content and communications more focused on the key information you need to know to make your elections. You ll also experience web enrollment screens that are quicker to navigate. You can expect to receive simplified Annual Enrollment materials at your home the week of October 14.
4 page 4 Facing an important health care decision? Health Coach from GE can connect you to the resources you need When you are dealing with a chronic illness or are diagnosed with a medical condition, Health Coach from GE can provide critical information and support. Health Coach from GE can assess your situation and connect you and your covered family members to the resources you need. Health Coaches are nurses, supported by a team of doctors, who provide the latest treatment guidelines from nationally recognized medical organizations, answer your questions and help you decide which support resources and treatment options are best. Health Coach is available at no cost to you and your dependents currently enrolled in a GE medical plan. In a survey of Health Coach users, 9 out of 10 said they would recommend the service to others. 1 out of 3 who consult with Health Coach decide to choose a different treatment, which is often less costly. Centers of Excellence A Center of Excellence (COE) is a nationally recognized medical institution known for quality care and better outcomes. COEs are available for treating cancer, heart disease and transplants. Ask Health Coach how you can access a COE. Expert Medical Opinion service Health Coach may recommend the Expert Medical Opinion (EMO) program, administered by the Cleveland Clinic. A second opinion can help you better understand your condition and feel more confident that a course of treatment is appropriate. Specialized Treatment Decision Support Specialized Treatment Decision Support is available if you have back pain, hip and knee problems, cancer or need bariatric surgery. Registered nurses help you learn about your treatment options and the risks and benefits of each.
5 page 5 Enhanced coverage for hip and knee replacements contact Health Coach from GE Employees and their dependents are eligible to go to a new Center of Excellence under the GE Health Benefits or GE Health Choice plans GE has partnered with the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City to offer services to employees, retirees or their enrolled dependents who need hip or knee replacement surgery even if they live outside of the NYC area. HSS performs more hip and knee replacement surgeries than any other hospital in the nation and for four consecutive years, U.S. News & World Report ranked them as the #1 hospital in the country for orthopedics. Program benefits include: 100% coverage of consultation and surgery costs for Option 1 and 2 members. Not subject to deductible and co-insurance. 100% coverage, after meeting deductible for Option 3 members. Up to a $2,000 total allowance to use toward eligible travel expenses to and from HSS in New York City, depending on where you live.* Pre- and post-op care coordination via Health Coach and HSS. To learn more, contact Health Coach from GE at * Allowance is available to employees who reside more than ~100 miles from HSS. Call Health Coach from GE to verify if you are eligible for the $2,000 allowance and to understand expenses that qualify for reimbursement. 6 page 6 The importance of preventive screenings Your GE Medical Care Option covers dozens of preventive screenings, as recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, at 100% in-network, not subject to the deductible. In other words, they cost you nothing. Here is a short list of what s covered: Screenings for cervical, breast, prostate and colon cancer; Annual adult physicals; Annual routine gynecological care; Screenings for conditions such as osteoporosis, depression and more; Pediatric prevention, including well-childcare visits and screenings; A variety of blood, urine and other lab tests; and Immunizations for influenza, hepatitis, tetanus and many more. If you re not sure whether a specific service is covered for you or a family member, please contact your health plan administrator. Looking for a provider in your area? Call Health Coach from GE at for assistance finding high-quality, cost-effective doctors and hospitals. WageWorks update The WageWorks portal is your online resource to track your Health Care Reimbursement Account (HRA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA). The WageWorks team actively reviews employee feedback and adds portal functionality to improve the overall user experience. Some of the tools available to you with the WageWorks online portal include: Manage your Claims and Activity : You can view your bills, pay providers, pay yourself and even submit claims and receipts, all in one place. Bundle claim lines: Providers often submit multiple line items in one bill. To make taking action easier, you can combine multiple line items with one provider into a single payment. Hide items: Sometimes you don t need to take action on a claim or activity. When this occurs, you can use the Hide feature to remove the item from the actions list. Download a claim spreadsheet: You may want to review your claims and activity history without going online or you may want to group claims by dependent. If this is the case, you can create and download a claims spreadsheet to see all of your activity. Mobile App: Use the WageWorks EZ Receipts Mobile App to manage your account while on the go! Visit the WageWorks online portal, create a username and password, and simply download EZ Receipts from your smartphone s app store. The GE Tuition Reimbursement Program provides valuable financial assistance that can help offset your tuition expenses and help you get back to class. The program reimburses you for courses that your manager and HR manager approve. Eligible expenses include tuition and up to $400 towards the cost of: Course application and registration; Laboratory use; Library access; Textbooks; and Course-related software. Track your reimbursement online The GE Tuition Reimbursement Web site allows you to do everything online, with 24-hour access to your application and other documents.
