3 3 Current legislation puts considerable responsibilities on trustees. We can help you meet your obligations. Whether you are a member nominated, employer nominated or an experienced independent trustee of an occupational pension scheme, it is vital you are up to date and fully understand how legislative and regulatory issues impact your scheme. Trustees are required to attain a certain level of knowledge and understanding of general pensions issues and to be conversant with the terms of their own pension scheme. These requirements, overseen by a proactive and powerful regulator, continue to make the role of being a trustee challenging. Over many years we have worked with hundreds of trustees and sponsor representatives so they are better able to meet all of their regulatory obligations, actively question their advisers and make considered decisions. LCP s training is excellent, it is well informed and topical. Ms McArdle MNT, Lincoln s Inn Staff Pension Scheme
4 4 LCP Trustee training courses Find out more at Trustee training programme LCP s courses are conducted by experienced professionals with the emphasis on developing understanding through real-life examples delivered in the clear, direct way that LCP is known for. Training needs analysis We know your time is precious so LCP has developed a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) to help you establish what you already know, avoiding wasting those important minutes covering things you are already familiar with. The TNA is conducted completely online so it can be done at your own pace and whenever is convenient for you. There is no time limit, but we would expect most trustees to be able to complete it within 30 to 40 minutes. We provide tailored written feedback on any learning gaps identified. Chris led an interesting and lively training session that was tailored to our specific scheme and our requirements. You could tell that he had taken the time to research our scheme and because of this we got real benefit from the training including a number of important action points to take away. Tim Kite, LMS Pension Scheme
5 5 LCP Trustee training courses Find out more at Topics covered on our courses LCP s trustee training programme offers trustees of defined benefit schemes the opportunity to obtain a broad understanding of the relevant issues ensuring you are fully informed about the world of pensions and employee benefits. Our one day training courses are clear, informative and designed to be interactive with discussion and real-life case studies. Attendance at the two one-day courses Duties & responsibilities and Funding & investment will ensure that the new trustee has covered units 1 to 9 of the Pensions Regulator s scope guidance setting out what it expects trustees of defined benefit schemes to know. Many topics are covered, including: Roles of the trustee and the sponsoring employer Fiduciary duties Conflicts of interest Whistleblowing and notifiable events The Pensions Regulator s powers The Pension Protection Fund Key pensions legislation, including auto-enrolment Governance and risk management Principles of funding a scheme The importance of covenant Setting and agreeing contributions Strategic asset allocation Interest rate and inflation risk Defined contribution arrangements risks, investment choices and member communications
6 6 LCP Trustee training courses Find out more at Bespoke training Whilst trustees can ask advice of their advisors, the final decision often comes down to the trustee board. So in order to make confident decisions about your defined benefit or defined contribution scheme it is important that all trustees know about their arrangement, and fully understand their trust deed and rules and other key documentation. Alternatively, trustees might value more detailed training before going through an investment review or actuarial valuation. We also offer courses for trustees of defined contribution schemes. We can work with you on an individual basis or with the whole trustee board to work through your scheme documentation or scheme-specific issues. How to register To attend a course, visit our website and register online at or alternitively contact Melanie Hutchins at melanie.hutchins@lcp.uk.com, For further information on bespoke training, or to discuss your training needs please contact Chris Green, Head of Trustee Training.
