14 Essential Superannuation Guarantee (SG) Information Our aim is to take the stress out of paying super. Here are some essential tips so you can get back to the business of running a business. Generally, you have to pay super for your employees who work full-time, part-time or on a casual basis if they: Are 18 years or older Are paid $450 or more (before tax) in salary or wages in a calendar month. Employees under 18 years of age must meet the above conditions and also work more than 30 hours per week to be entitled to SG contributions. All employers must be SuperStream compliant by 1 July 2016 It s easy to do and you can use our QuickSuper clearing house for free when you choose AustSafe Super as your default fund
15 SG contribution timelines Superannuation legislation requires you to pay eligible employees their SG contributions at least quarterly. The table below shows the cut-off dates for SG payments: It s best to make an SG contribution a week before the contribution cut-off. This gives your bank time to process payments and ensures you won t receive a fine for a late payment. If your SG payments are late it means you may be liable for extra expenses if you don t make your payments on time, you ll have to pay an additional SG charge to the ATO (including administration and interest fees). Insurance cover may also be affected.
