A gift in your will Whilst we manage our finances prudently, we recognise the need for additional support from the Ashville community to help us to achieve our goals.

Since 2010, we have invested nearly 10 million into capital projects which have included the opening of a Pre-School and the redevelopment of the Sports Centre and Soothill Hall.

Donations to the College make a significant difference and by leaving a gift in your will, you can help to benefit future generations of Ashvillians. How can a gift help? Since 2010, we have invested nearly 10 million into capital projects which have included the opening of a Pre-School and the redevelopment of the Sports Centre and Soothill Hall. However, campus development is ongoing and we have ambitious future plans. We also want to continue to nurture great talent by providing financial bursaries to those children and families who cannot afford the fees or who may be experiencing financial difficulties.

Such bursaries have enabled us to ensure pupils can remain at the College after a major family trauma.

4 Supporting Ashville College Leaving a gift in your will to Ashville costs nothing in your lifetime but will have an impact for years to come. Previous gifts in wills (large or small) have allowed the College, through both scholarships and bursaries, to provide an Ashville education to those who would not ordinarily be able to afford one. Such bursaries have enabled us to ensure pupils can remain at the College after a major family trauma. Gifts have also supported campus development projects such as funding and enhancing additional buildings and facilities. You may already know which area of the College you would like to support and we will always remain true to your wishes. For example, you could choose to support a gifted child by providing them with a bursary to attend the College or you may have a particular affinity to a department such as music or sport. You may also trust the College to allocate your gift to the area where the need is greatest at that particular time. People choose to give for very different reasons, whether to express gratitude for their time at Ashville, to honour a loved one or to benefit future pupils. Whatever the reason may be, as a benefactor, please be rest assured that your gift will positively shape our pupils lives.

We strongly believe that if you choose to support the future of Ashville you should be thanked and honoured in your lifetime so the Society is a way for the College to show its appreciation of your support. Members will be invited to an annual lunch with the Headmaster where you can meet friends and keep up to date with the College s latest news and future plans. We very much hope that you will wish to become a member of this important and worthwhile Society, however, requests for anonymity will be respected. Endowment Fund One long term goal of Ashville College is to establish a protected endowment fund specifically for bursaries which would produce sustainable income to subsidise the fees of those children who would otherwise not be able attend the College. Endowment funds give individuals and families the chance to have lasting impact by making a donation that can generate regular income for the College. We believe a fund of 1.5 million would allow us to generate enough income to fund a 100% bursary into Sixth Form in perpetuity every year....my mother has stayed home and cared for me and my seven other siblings, thus she has been out of employment for many years. Case Study Giovanni Passerello I never thought that I would have to consider leaving Ashville College prematurely, before the end of the Sixth Form. However, when my father unexpectedly passed away when I was 15 and studying for my GCSEs, my mother and I were forced to consider the possibility of sending me elsewhere to school... This left us with no credible or reliable source of income. Though I was already awarded generous scholarships, the Ashville Foundation very kindly funded the 60% shortfall towards my fees. This enabled me to stay at Ashville without having to leave behind the school and friendships that I hold dear and without disrupting my education in the run up to exams. I am extremely grateful that the Foundation has continued to support me all the way through the rest of my time at College, providing me with the stability to continue my education. My school means so much to me and I cannot thank the Ashville family enough for all the wonderful opportunities and experiences that I may have missed out on had the Foundation not made it possible.

It is easy and inexpensive to have a will drafted by a qualified professional and we always advise seeking legal advice at the time of writing or amending your will. If Ashville has been an important part of your life, we would be incredibly grateful if you would consider leaving a gift to the College in your will. Gifts to the College are exempt from Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax (currently 40%) and a further 4% discount on Inheritance Tax will apply when at least 10% or more of the net value of the estate is left to charity.

Pecuniary Bequest This form of gift allows you to give a specific sum of money to the College. Please be advised that the value of money you specify may decrease over time due to inflation so it is possible to index-link the sum so that it maintains its current-day value. Please consult your solicitor and/or accountant for full details on index-linking. Specific Bequest You can leave a specific personal possession to Ashville College such as jewellery, antiques, land, buildings, works of art or stocks and shares. These possessions would then be excluded from the valuation of your Estate and would not be liable for Inheritance Tax. Reversionary Bequest This can be an attractive form of giving because it allows you to provide for your family during their lifetime but the remainder of your estate (or assets) would revert to Ashville College after their deaths. Conditional Bequest This type of gift provides for the eventuality that if none of your named dependants survive you, your estate will be left to other named beneficiaries such as Ashville College.
