A GUIDE TO VSPvision
Welcome to your guide to VSP individual vision insurance. DEFINING CHOOSING QUOTING ENROLLING
INTRODUCTION Who is VSP? At Henderson Brothers, we aim to provide the best products and services for our clients. When it comes to ancillary products like vision, we rely on VSP as one of our insurance carriers. Their vision plans are reasonably priced and highly competitive in the Western PA region. How to Start VSP provided a personal URL through which our clients can access quotes and enroll in a dental and/or vision plan. You can access this URL here, and follow the following steps: 1 2 Right click on the URL above, and open in a new window. Minimize this guide, or place it to the side of your screen next to your browser. You can then use this guide as you navigate the site. Questions? Go to Page 13 to get in touch with us. Introduction 3 hendersonbrothers.com
DEFINING Explaining commonly-used terms in vision plans Vision insurance works differently from health insurance plans, so it s important to first take a look at some terms that are specific to vision insurance. Some of these terms are specific to VSP plans as well. Below and on the next pages are definitions of terms you will find when reviewing plan options. Allowance On both plans, you are provided an allowance for eyewear. This is a limit for what is covered by the plan for the lenses you select. If your frames or lenses cost more than the allowance, you will pay out of pocket for the remaining amount. For example, the plans include a $150 allowance for frames. If you choose a pair of frames that cost $200, then VSP will pay the first $150, and you will pay out of pocket the remaining $50. Copay This is the amount that you pay out of pocket to the provider at the time of service. Copay amounts vary from $15 for a vision exam to upwards of $175 for progressive lenses. Frequency Vision plans have time limits on how frequently you can use a service. Some limits may be once every 6 months, once every 12 months, or once every two years, depending on the plan. VSP benefits have a frequency of once every 12 months, meaning that you can only use the benefit i.e. vision exam, new frames, new lenses) only once per year. HVA Annual Membership VSP plans require your enrollment in the Healthy Vision Association (HVA). Your membership in HVA not only helps support vision-related charities, but also gives you access to everyday goods and services that save you hundreds of dollars per year. Defining 4 hendersonbrothers.com
Anti-Glare For a copay for $41-$85 depending on the provider, you can add an anti-glare feature to your lenses. Laser Vision Correction If you want to forego eyewear altogether, and if you are a candidate for Lasik surgery, both plans include laser vision correction coverage at no additional cost. VSP offers an average 15% off the regular price savings on the promotional price from contracted facilities. Tinted (Colored) Lenses Exposure to blue light from igital devices such as computers, smart phones, tablets, and TVs has been known to disrupt sleep and lead to other adverse effects. Some researchers suggest wearing yellow-tinted lenses to block our eyes from the potentially harmful effects of this wavelength of light. If this is a concern, you can add tinted lenses for a copay of $15-$17. Light-to-Dark Tinting Impact-Resistant If you want lightweight, shatterproof lenses, vsp offers coverage for polycarbonate lenses for an additional copay of $ Progressive Lenses For bifocals or trifocals, you can choose a noline lens with the progressive lenses copay of $55- $175. Scratch-Resistant Coating To extend the life of your lenses, you may want a scratch-resistant coating. VSP offers coverage for this service for a $17-$33 copay. UV Protection Just as sunscreen keeps the sun s UV rays from harming your skin, UV-protective treatments for eyeglass lenses block those same rays from damaging your eyes. VSP covers this service, and your copay would be $16. VSP offers additional coverage for photochromic adaptive lenses. This is an additional copay between $70-$82 depending on the provider costs. Defining 5 hendersonbrothers.com
Additional Coverage In addition to vision exams, lenses, and frames, VSP plans also offer partial coverage for dental procedures and hearing devices. The following definitions explain the additional kinds of coverage offered by VSP: Discount Dental Plan VSP does not offer dental insurance, but they do have the option for an additional discount dental plan. With this feature, you can save 20% to 50% on most dental procedures including routine oral exams, unlimited cleanings and major work such as dentures, root canals and crowns through one of the largest dental networks nationally with a focus on neighborhood dentists. This is an additional copay between $70-$82 depending on the provider costs. TruHearing Hearing Program If you have hearing aids, VSP includes an allowance of up to $2,400 on hearing aids for you and your family. Hearing exams are not included, but the devices are covered. Defining 6 hendersonbrothers.com
CHOOSING Plan designs and benefits This next section will describe different advantages to each plan option available from VSP. There are currently two plan options available, and we will break out the differences between the two so you can decide which option is better for you. All of the Basics The VSP Base Plan covers a yearly eye exam, frames, lenses, contacts (instead of glasses), and contains extra savings for eyewear. If you want preventive care and smaller copays for eyewear, this may be a good fit for you. The premium amount is the lowest of the two plan options, so this is the most cost-effective option. Lens Upgrades In addition to the benefits as the Base Plan, the EasyOptions Plan offers a choice of an EasyOptions Upgrade. This feature covers the following upgrades: Fully covered no-line bifocals (progressive lenses) Fully covered light-to-dark lens tinting (photochromic adaptive lenses) Increased frame allowance to $230 Increased contact lens allowance to $230 The best customer for this plan is someone who wears glasses or contacts and wants the option for enhancements. Choosing 7 hendersonbrothers.com
QUOTING How to use the site to generate quotes When the website opens from the personalized URL from Henderson Brothers, you should see the above page. To start the quoting process, click the button, Get Rates. Quoting 8 hendersonbrothers.com
Select your state of residence from the drop-down arrow. The screen will populate quotes for both plans based on the state you select. Choose the payment plan that works best for you, then click the button, Continue. Quoting 9 hendersonbrothers.com
ENROLLING What to do once you ve chosen a plan Now that you have narrowed down the plan that you want, you can enroll in your chosen plan right on the website. On the next screen, you will see the total cost of the plan(s) you chose, including the mandatory HVA membership fee. If the plans and prices look correct, then you can either: 1. Continue with your purchase, or 2. Add a discount dental plan Enrolling 10 hendersonbrothers.com
The remaining screens will ask for billing information. The rest of the enrollment process is fairly straightforward. If you encounter any issues or have any questions, please reach out to us; we re happy to help. Enrolling 11 hendersonbrothers.com
