RESOURCE MANAGEMENT REVIEW Non-Profit School Food Service Account Paid Lunch Equity Revenue from Non- Program Foods Indirect Costs
What is PLE? Why do we need PLE? Navigating the PLE Tool.
What is Paid Lunch Equity? Section 205 of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 requires SFA s participating in the NSLP to provide the same level of support for lunches served to students who are not eligible for free or reduced price lunches as they are for lunches served to students eligible for free lunches.
Why is PLE necessary?
Why do I need to complete this? How will this benefit my district?
Why we need Paid Lunch Equity? When lunch prices don t cover cost of production. Results in misallocated Federal subsidies. Creates a budget gap.
82% *Source: Center on Budget and Policy Priorities based on analysis of USDA data.
How to navigate the PLE Tool?
Compare Weighted Average Price (WAP) of paid lunches in the district Difference between Federal reimbursed free and paid lunches
WEIGHTED AVERAGE PRICE (WAP) It is an average in which each quantity to be averaged is assigned a weight, and these weightings determine the relative importance of each quantity on the average. $2.50 $2.25 $4.75

How much is the USDA target rate going to rise?
Timeline for submission Released in December Calculations in February Submit to school board by Spring
In the PLE Tool, why is SY chosen as the jumping off point? Why isn t the USDA target rate adjusted for income rates according to demographics? What s the difference between the USDA target rate and WAP requirement? If the credits apply towards the next years calculations then how is debt repaid? If my SFA is CEP do I still need to complete the calculator each year? Where can I find a copy of the calculator? How can we reach the target price if it keeps rising? Where to get the data for the PLE?
