3 Who is seda? Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) was established in December 2004, through National Small Business Amendment Act, 29, Seda was formed through the merger of Ntsika Enterprise Promotion Agency, the National Manufacturing Advisory Centres (NAMAC) as well as the Community Public Private Partnership Programme (CPPP). Godisa incubation programme, technology transfer programme, and the SA Quality Institute were later incorporated into Seda as a Technology Programme (stp)

4 Legislative Mandate 1. Implement national government small business strategy. 2. Design and implement a standard and common national delivery network that must uniformly apply throughout the Republic in respect of small enterprise development, integrating all government funded small enterprise support agencies across all tiers of government. Section 10 of Act 29 of 2004

14 Seda Technology Programme Incubation Incubators provide a sheltered and protected environment within which to support and nurture technology-based start-ups and enterprises. Technology Demonstration Centres focus on demonstrating, exhibiting and providing training in the use of available technologies with respect to value adding processes. Technology Transfer The Technology Transfer division provides a range of technology transfer services that enable small and micro enterprises to have access to appropriate technology, funding for technology transfer interventions, technical advice and support and business assistance. Quality This diii division provides services to enhance the quality and services produced d by South African entrepreneurs for the local and export market through the provision of advice on standards and technical support.

16 Cooperatives and Community Public Private Partnerships (CPPP) Purpose is to promote the establishment of rural and collectively-owned enterprises and ensure their growth and sustainability by facilitating public and private partnerships. The programme aims to identify markets, resources, technical assistance and capacity-building ildi opportunities i that will enhance competitiveness and sustainability of enterprises. This is facilitated by promoting the use of industry tools and models that enhance efficiency and planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of staff and projects. It focuses on four key sectors, namely Agro-processing, Community Tourism and Protected Areas, Mining and Mineral Beneficiation, and Trading and Auxiliary enterprises

17 Learning Academy Seda courses support entrepreneurial success Seda s five day entrepreneurial training courses empower small business owners with the necessary skills to enable them to take their businesses to greater heights. Entrepreneurs learn to Market their business effectively. Understand the importance of building a reputable business profile as a marketing tool. Maintain i financial i records and develop their business plans. The training courses also cover financial management, customer care, report writing and business writing skills, whilst helping entrepreneurs to identify areas of improvement for their businesses.

18 Learning Academy The LA is a fully accredited training provider with the Services Seta The Seda Business Advisor Grading System/Model being used to assess all Business Advisors LA partnering with relevant South African and International institutions LA aligning g current programmes to NQF/SAQA Q standards to ensure relevance and quality LA continues to emphasise both the practical and theoretical LA continues to emphasise both the practical and theoretical components in its capacity/capability building programmes
