Contents All goods, clothing and personal effects belonging or for which You are legally responsible under a written agreement making You responsible for insuring them other than keys, mobile phones, musical instruments, any Portable Computer Equipment, Bicycles and their accessories, contact lenses or dentures, any computer software or software manuals, any Photographic, video or Hi-Fi equipment which can be used in conjunction with a Portable Computer or any item specifically excluded by this policy, Vehicles and Craft. Course A recognised course of further education at a recognised College where You attend on a full time basis during the academic year occurring during the Period of Insurance and where completion is essential to achieve a recognised qualification. Cover Refers to those sections of Student Possessions Insurance Policy which are operative and any additional limitations, requirements or excesses that apply all of which are shown on Your Statement of Insurance. 0
2 Designated Student Residence Hall of residence or other accommodation for students managed by the Student Accommodation Provider within which the Term Time Address is situated. Emergency Dental Treatment Emergency treatment to natural teeth required as a direct result of Assault or Mugging and arising within seven days of the Incident Endorsement A change to the details which form part of Your Student Possessions Insurance Policy. Event Any one occurrence or series of occurrences arising out of or attributable to one source or original cause. Excess The first amount payable by You for any one incident under each section of Your Student Possessions Insurance Policy and which is deducted from Your claim settlement. Forcible and Violent Entry That which is evidenced by visible damage to the fabric of the building at the point of entry. Hi-fi Equipment Radios, tuners, cassette players, compact disc players, mini disc players, record decks, amplifiers, speakers, music centres, MP/MP players (but not the music downloaded and/or stored within them) and any audio equipment intended for portable use. Hospital Either a Hospital in the United Kingdom operated under the National Health Service or an independent Hospital in the United Kingdom with specialist facilities for medical or surgical treatment as defined by the Health Services, the Nursing Homes or any subsequent legislation. Immovable Object Any fixed object not capable of being removed unless by forcible means to which the bike is locked through the frame via a security device. Incapacitated Prevented from completing Your Course. Insured Cause The Event resulting in loss or damage to property, listed under Cover For Your Contents. Money The following items all belonging :- Coins or bank notes in current circulation Cheques, travellers cheques, bankers drafts, postal or money orders Gift vouchers, current postage stamps not forming part of a collection Saving certificates, premium bonds or saving stamps Telephone cards, current travel or other tickets with a fixed monetary value Mugging Robbery or attempted robbery with violence from Your person. Period of Insurance The period starting and ending on those dates shown on Your Statement of Insurance. Permanent Home Address The home of Your parent or legal guardian in the United Kingdom. Permanent Total Disablement Disablement which will entirely prevent You from engaging in any occupation of any and every type and description for the remainder of Your life without hope of recovery. Photographic Equipment :- Cameras, camcorders and video recording equipment, Binoculars and telescopes Developing, editing and associated visual equipment Accessories associated with any of the above Portable Computer Equipment Any computer equipment which is or can be battery powered, including laptops, palmtops, portable printers, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and items of a similar nature. Replacement Value The cost of replacing items with new ones, except clothing and household linen, rented goods and College property on loan where a deduction will be made for wear and tear. Resident Staying overnight in the Term Time Address. (continued) Residential Fees Payment made periodically by or on behalf of the Student to the Student Accommodation Provider or landlord in respect of accommodation costs at the Term Time Address. Single Article Limit The limit which applies to any individual item or stated group of items insured by Your Student Possessions Insurance Policy. Statement of Insurance The document giving details of the Premium, the Term Time Address, the Cover, the Period of Insurance, the Insurer and the policy number. Student Any person following a Course at a College. Student Accommodation Provider The university, university college, College, company or private individual that manages the letting, maintenance and security of the Designated Student Residence. Student Possessions Insurance Policy This comprises Your Student Possessions Insurance Policy wording, Statement of Insurance and any Endorsements. Sum Insured The maximum amount payable for each cover section or item insured specified in the Student Possessions Policy wording or Statement of Insurance. Term Time Address The room or rooms occupied by You during the College Term. This address is shown on Your Statement of Insurance. Tuition Fees The part of the current years tuition fees for the course on which You have enrolled which are not refundable in the event of Your withdrawing from the course. Unattended Out of Your sight. United Kingdom/UK England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. Unoccupied Where neither You nor a fellow tenant are Resident in the Term Time Address. Utility Areas Utility room, shower room, bathroom, kitchen or toilet area in the Designated Student Residence or House shown on the Statement of Insurance. Vacation Those periods between the end and beginning of the College Term. Valuables Any article of gold, silver or other precious metal, jewellery, pearls or gemstones Watches or clocks Furs or leather garments Musical instruments Works of art, pictures or curios Collections of stamps, coins, bank notes or medals Vehicles and Craft Any electrically or mechanically powered vehicles, caravans, trailers, watercraft including surfboards, hovercraft, aircraft, all-terrain vehicles or quad bikes and including their accessories, tools and in-car audio equipment (but not domestic gardening equipment, battery operated golf trolleys or wheelchairs, battery or pedestrian operated models or toys). We/Us/ The Insurer shown on Your Statement of Insurance or Endsleigh Insurance Services Limited acting on their behalf. You/Your The Student named as the Policyholder on the Statement of Insurance. Endsleigh Student Possessions Insurance Policy This is Your Endsleigh Student Possessions Insurance Policy. It is the contract You have made with Us. We cover You during the Period of Insurance in accordance with the terms set out in Your Student Possessions Insurance Policy in return for payment of the premium. Your Student Possessions Insurance Policy wording, Statement of Insurance and any Endorsements are all part of Your policy and should be read together to avoid misunderstanding. They show which sections of Your policy are in force and contain details of the cover. All the documents should be read carefully, paying particular attention to the and which apply to the whole policy. Your Student Possessions Insurance Policy sets out all the circumstances in which You can make a claim. It is not a maintenance contract and does not protect against every loss. This policy is governed by English Law. English law will also apply prior to the conclusion of Your contract of insurance. Your contract of insurance and all communications before and during Your contract of insurance will be provided in the English language. 0
3 Your Contents in the Term Time Address Your Statement of Insurance will show whether You have cover under this section and the Sum Insured applicable We will pay for loss of or damage r Contents in the Term Time Address as a direct result of the following Insured Causes:- Theft or attempted theft Fire, lightning, explosion, thunderbolt or earthquake Smoke Subsidence or heave of the site on which the Term Time Address stands or landslip or landslide We will not pay the first of each and every claim. We will not pay for any theft:- a) if caused by deception b) from a parked motor vehicle, except as described in Additional Benefits e - Transit at the Beginning and End of a College Term c) when the Term Time Address is without occupant for any period of time and any ground floor accessible door or window to the Term Time Address has been left open or unlocked. We would draw Your attention to point Reasonable Care which is to be found on page of this Student Possessions Insurance Policy. We will not pay for:- a) damage caused by bedding down of new structures or settlement of newly made up ground b) damage resulting from demolition or structural repairs or alterations to the Term Time Address Storm or flood Damage caused by either water or oil leaking from any fixed appliance, pipe or tank Riot, civil commotion, strike, labour and political disturbances Damage caused by aircraft, animals or vehicles hitting the buildings in which the Term Time Address is situated We will not pay for damage:- a) occurring when the Term Time Address is not visited by You or a fellow tenant for 0 consecutive days b) to the appliance, pipe or tank from which the leakage has occurred We will not pay for damage caused by domestic pets for which You are responsible. Damage caused by trees or branches, lamp posts or telegraph poles falling on the buildings in which the Term Time Address is situated 0 Malicious damage In addition to cover for Your Contents in the Term Time Address, We will provide cover in the following circumstances:- a) Contents temporarily away from the Term Time Address We will cover Your Contents for loss or damage by any of the Insured Causes whilst:- at Your Permanent Home Address at any occupied private dwelling at any building where You are temporarily residing b) Vacation cover in the Term Time Address when it is Unoccupied We will pay for loss of or damage r Contents whilst left in Your Term Time Address during Vacation:- when Unoccupied for a period of no more than consecutive days immediately prior to a loss being discovered when Unoccupied for up to the duration of the Vacation if the Term Time Address is in a Designated Student Residence c) Storage in designated college secure storage area during Vacation We will pay for loss of or damage r Contents by an Insured Cause whilst removed from Your Term Time Address to secure storage designated by the Student Accommodation Provider during Vacation d) Designated Halls of Residence Utility Areas We will pay for loss of or damage r Contents by an Insured Cause whilst removed from the Term Time Address to a Utility Area or any other locked storage on campus Additional Benefits 0 We will not pay for malicious damage:- a) unless the incident is reported to the police b) occurring after the Term Time Address has been left Unoccupied for more than 0 days c) caused by You or any other person living at the Term Time Address We will not pay the first of each and every claim covered under Contents Additional Benefits. We will not pay for:- a) any amount in excess of 00 unless in Your Permanent Home Address b) any loss as a result of theft unless following Forcible and Violent Entry, except in Your Permanent Home Address c) any loss or damage outside the United Kingdom We will not pay for loss of or damage to the Your Contents during Vacation when Your Term Time Address is Unoccupied:- a) unless locked inside the Term Time Address by key and only You have access b) if Your Term Time Address is not in a Designated Student Residence and it is left Unoccupied for a period of more than days prior to a loss being discovered We will not pay:- a) any amount in excess of,000 b) any amount in excess of 00 for theft, unless following Forcible and Violent Entry to the Utility Area or locked storage 0
4 Additional Benefits (continued) e) Transit at the Beginning and End of a College Term We will pay for loss of or damage r Contents by an Insured Cause whilst in direct and undiverted transit for the sole purpose of moving between Your Term Time Address and Your Permanent Home Address at the beginning and end of each College Term f) Money We will pay for loss of Money by an Insured Cause in the Term Time Address g) Credit Cards We will pay for Your legal liability following loss and subsequent unauthorised use of Your credit, cheque or bank card issued in the United Kingdom h) Liability for Rented Household Goods We will pay for sums which You become legally liable to pay following loss or damage by an Insured Cause to household goods (other than telephones) rented under the terms of a formal rental agreement while in Your Term Time Address i) Tenants Liability We will pay for sums which You become legally liable to pay following damage to landlords fixtures and fittings in Your custody or control and for which You are legally responsible under the terms of a formal tenancy agreement resulting from any Insured Cause j) Liability for College Library Books and College Property on Loan We will pay for sums which You become legally liable to pay following loss of or damage to College library books or College property on loan by an Insured Cause whilst:- in Your Term Time Address in Your Permanent Home Address in the College in direct transit between Your Term Time Address and Permanent Home Address at the beginning and end of each College Term k) Liability for Public Service Equipment We will pay for sums which You become legally liable to pay following damage by an Insured Cause to:- gas, electricity or water meters non-portable telephone equipment owned by and rented from the service provider in the Term Time Address We will not pay for:- a) theft of Your Contents from a motor vehicle whilst left Unattended, except whilst parked temporarily and not overnight to allow for a short break during the course of the journey between Your Term Time Address and Your Permanent Home Address at the beginning or end of the College Term whilst parked overnight between the hours of midnight and.00am where the Contents are not stored in a locked boot or locked glove compartment or concealed from sight in the locked luggage section of the vehicle b) theft whilst left Unattended at any time in a place which has public access c) any amount in excess of 00 for any single carrying device and its Contents d) any loss occurring outside the United Kingdom We will not pay for:- a) any amount in excess of 0 b) any loss by theft unless following Forcible and Violent Entry to the term time address We will not pay for:- a) any liability in excess of 00 during the Period of Insurance b) any liability arising from the loss of the card unless reported immediately to the issuing authority and subject to all the terms and conditions attaching to the card having been complied with c) the unauthorised use of a card arising after the issuing authority has been notified of the loss d) any liability resulting from the loss or subsequent misuse of the card outside the United Kingdom We will not pay for:- a) any amount in excess of 000 for any single item b) any loss unless You are named as the party responsible for the rented goods on the rental agreement with the company concerned c) any claim in excess of that stated on a written down valuation acceptable to Us and supplied from the central accounts office of the rental company concerned d) any liability assumed by You for any part of a third party s contractual liability whether based upon contribution towards rent or otherwise e) any claim for rented household goods unless the Sum Insured under Cover for Your Contents is sufficient to include the full extent of liability to any rental company for all rented household goods f) accidental damage to landlords goods We will not pay for:- a) any amount in excess of 000 in any period of Insurance b) accidental damage to landlords goods We will not pay for:- a) any amount in excess of 00 for College library books b) any amount in excess of 00 for College property on loan c) any claim which is not supported by a bill from the College d) any loss or damage occurring outside the United Kingdom e) any property unless it is in Your immediate custody and control We will not pay for:- a) any amount in excess of 0 b) any loss or damage resulting from theft or caused by criminal persons unless following Forcible and Violent Entry c) Money in meters or telephones d) liability for mobile phones, their accessories or related costs 0
5 Additional Benefits (continued) l) Personal Liability We will pay for sums which You become legally liable to pay, including costs and expenses incurred with consent, in defence of a claim for damages as a result of:- accidental death or bodily injury to any person not being a member of Your family or Your household or residing damage to property not belonging or in the charge or control of You or a member of Your family happening in the United Kingdom during the Period of Insurance We will also pay legal costs and expenses recoverable by any claimant and all costs and expenses agreed by Us in writing. If You die, Your legal personal representatives will have the protection of this cover for liability incurred by You. m) Accidental Death of a Supporting Parent We will pay You,000 following accidental death of a parent or guardian on whom You are financially dependent to complete Your Course, such death to arise solely from bodily injury by external violent and visible means during the Period of Insurance. n) Assault and Mugging cover Part A If You are injured solely and directly as a result of a physical and criminal Assault or Mugging occurring anywhere within the United Kingdom, We will pay the following amounts if within 0 days of the Incident the injury results in:- Death,000 Permanent Total Disablement,000 Hospital daily cash benefit for each day of confinement up to a maximum of days, but excluding the first nights stay 0 per day Emergency Dental Treatment 0 Damage r Clothing and/or spectacles 0 Stress counselling arising from an Assault or Mugging which results in either Permanent Total Disablement or confinement in Hospital for a period in excess of days 0 Part B Subject r claim being covered by Part A:- We will also pay up to,000 towards additional costs reasonably incurred by You in undertaking a further year of study if You were prevented from taking examinations as a result of an Assault or Mugging We will reimburse rent up to a maximum of 00 which has been paid in advance and which is not otherwise recoverable elsewhere, if following an Assault or Mugging Your course has to be terminated early. We will not pay for:- a) any amount in excess of,000,000 in respect of any number of claims arising out of one Event b) any liability in respect of:- accidental death or bodily injury or any member of Your family or any person who lives with or is employed by You damage to property owned by You or in the care or control of You or any member of Your family or any person who lives with or is employed by You any trade, profession, business or employment any contract which You have entered into unless legal liability would have attached anyway the ownership, possession or operation of Vehicles and Craft any power operated lift firearms, except shotguns or air guns used for sporting activity the ownership or possession of horses while being used for hunting, racing or polo pets which are not normally domesticated in the UK a dog of a type specified under of the Dangerous Dogs or specified in the Dogs (Muzzling) Regulations (Northern Ireland ) animals other than horses or domestic pets the ownership, occupation, possession or use of any land or building any occurrence caused by, or arising out of, or contributed to by, any tenancy, business, profession or occupation the transmission of any communicable disease arising directly or indirectly by You or any person living any wilful or malicious act by You racing of any kind other than on foot a) You will have to pay the first in respect of each claim for:- Emergency Dental Treatment; or damage to clothing and/or spectacles b) We will not pay the Assault and Mugging benefit for injury or death:- if caused by deliberate self-inflicted injury, suicide or attempted suicide if caused by deliberate exposure to exceptional danger (except in an attempt to save human life) if caused by provoked Assault, fighting (except in bona fide self defence) or a criminal act committed by You in any country outside the United Kingdom c) We will not pay for more than one session of stress counselling per claim applicable to Assault and Mugging. You must take all reasonable steps to limit the likelihood of sustaining physical injury as a result of an Assault or Mugging.. If an injury occurs You must as early as reasonably possible place yourself under the care of a duly qualified medical practitioner.. You or Your representatives must ensure that all medical records, notes and correspondence referring to the subject of a claim or a related pre-existing condition will be made available on request to any medical advisor appointed by or on behalf of Us and that such medical advisor will for the purpose of reviewing the claim, be allowed as often as may be deemed necessary to make examination of You. You must undergo any medical examination We request.. The police must be notified within hours of an incident of Assault or Mugging. If You need to make a claim Your Contents in the Term Time Address We will decide whether to repair or replace the damaged/lost property, alternatively We may wish to pay in cash. Any cash payment will reflect view of the replacement cost for the loss or damage. If the same specification or model is unavailable, a new one of similar specification will be provided. We will not under any circumstances replace the lost or damaged property with a model of a different type or of a higher specification, even if You are prepared to contribute to the additional cost. What is the most We will pay? a) We will not pay more than the total Sum Insured stated on the Statement of Insurance and this must be adequate to cover the full cost of replacing all items as new other than clothing, household linen and rented household goods and College property on loan. b) We will deduct an amount for wear, tear and depreciation in respect of clothing and household linen, rented household goods and College property on loan. 0
6 If You need to make a claim Your Contents in the Term Time Address (continued) If the damage can be repaired, but repair or reinstatement is not carried out We will pay the reduction in value of the item resulting from damage, but not exceeding the estimated cost of repair. We will automatically reinstate the Sum Insured for Contents covered under this section from the date of payment of any claim, unless We have given You written notice to the contrary before payment. What is the most We will pay? c) We will not pay more than the value stated under 'What is not covered' in Additional Benefits a-n. d) We will not pay more than,000 for each of the following:- Hi-fi Equipment Photographic Equipment e) We will not pay more than 00 for each of the following groups of items:- Valuables CDs, DVDs, video and audio cassettes, mini discs, records, cartridges, CD ROMs, DVD ROMS, and computer games f) We will not pay more than:- 0 for any single article of clothing. 0 for Computer Accessories Items taken outside Your Room Non Electrical Your Statement of Insurance will show whether You have cover under this section and the Sum Insured applicable We will pay for loss of or damage to Contents belonging or for which You are legally liable as a direct result of the Insured Causes shown under Your Contents in the Term Time Address (not Additional Benefits) or accidental damage or loss whilst in or away from the Term Time Address occurring in the United Kingdom and for up to 0 days anywhere in the world. We will not pay:- a) the first 0 of each and every claim b) for any property not belonging or for which You are not legally liable c) theft from a parked motor vehicle, except as described in - Cover for Your Contents - Additional Benefits e Transit at the Beginning and End of a College Term d) loss of or damage r Contents if left Unattended at any time in a place which has public access e) for any of the following: Loss of or damage to sports equipment or sports clothing whilst in the course of play or use Breakage of skins and strings or scratching, bruising or denting of musical instruments Breakage of glass (other than lenses) or article of a brittle nature (other than jewellery), scratching or denting Damage to guns by internal explosion Money Loss or damage to any item not defined as Contents f) any claim for jewellery valued at 00 or more unless a receipt or valuation can be provided for that item (see. Evidence of Value page 0) g) Bicycles and their accessories h) contact lenses or dentures i) mobile phones j) Vehicles and Craft k) Laptops and Portable Electrical Items If You need to make a claim Items taken outside Your Room Non Electrical We will decide whether to repair or replace the damaged/lost property, alternatively We may wish to pay in cash. Any cash payment will reflect our view of the replacement cost for the loss or damage. If the same specification or model is unavailable, a new one of similar specification will be provided. We will not under any circumstances replace the lost or damaged property with a model of a different type or of a higher specification, even if You are prepared to contribute to the additional cost. What is the most We will pay? a) We will not pay more than the total Sum Insured for Accidental Loss of or Damage to non electrical items taken outside Your room or replacement cost for the loss or damage, whichever is the lower amount. b) We will deduct an amount for wear, tear and depreciation in respect of clothing and household linen, rented household goods and College property on loan. c) We will not pay more than,000 for any single article. 0
7 Laptop, Gadget and Digital Download Cover Your Statement of Insurance will show whether You have cover under this section and the Sum Insured applicable We will pay for loss of or damage to Laptops and Portable Electrical Items belonging as a direct result of the Insured Causes shown under Your Contents in the Term Time Address (not Additional Benefits) or accidental damage or loss whilst in or away from the Term Time Address occurring in the United Kingdom and for up to 0 days anywhere in the world. We will also pay for the cost of replacing digitally downloaded pictures, movies, ring tones, real tones and music that You have already paid for the following:- loss of desktop, laptop, MP/MP player, PDA or Smart Phone hard drive failure accidental erasure an Insured Cause Occurring within the Period of Insurance. 10 Mobile Phone Cover Your Statement of Insurance will show whether You have cover under this section applicable only to, in addition to the general which appear on pages -. For simplicity s sake We use key words and phrases which are listed below in alphabetical order. They have the same meaning whenever they appear in this section and are shown with an initial capital letter to remind You of their importance. Accidental Damage The full or partial destruction caused by an unexpected or unforeseen external force or incident. Accidental Loss The misplacement of Your mobile phone in a public place within the United Kingdom. Airtime Provider The supplier of Your line rental in respect of the Insured Phone. Call Cloning The Unauthorised Calls that are stated on Your Insured Phone statement that have not been made from the Insured Phone. We will pay for:- a) Accidental Damage Repair or replacement to the same or similar specification of the Insured Phone at discretion if the Insured Phone is subject to Accidental Damage. b) Accidental Loss Replacement to the same or similar specification if the Insured Phone is subject to Accidental Loss at discretion. c) Theft Should the Insured Phone be stolen We will replace it with a mobile phone of the same or similar specification. d) Unauthorised Calls Contract phones Should the Insured Phone be used without Your permission following its theft or by Call Cloning We will pay up to 0.00 provided the Police and Your Airtime Provider have been notified, the latter within hours of the discovery of the theft. Pay as You Go phones If You have a Pay as You Go type Insured Phone, then liability will be limited to a maximum of.00. The Insured Phone will be repaired in the event of Accidental Damage. In the event of theft or if beyond economic repair it will be replaced with a mobile phone of similar specification or value at discretion. The original Insured Phone will become property in the event of replacement. We will not pay:- a) the first of each and every claim incurred due to accidental loss b) the first 0 of each and every claim incurred other than for accidental loss c) for any loss suffered as a result of not being able to use the Insured Phone or any loss over and above the replacement cost of the Insured Phone. d) for theft of the Insured Phone: from an unattended motor vehicle except where all reasonable care has been taken to conceal the Insured Phone, e.g. concealed in a locked boot or glove compartment and only if all security systems have been activated; from any convertible vehicle unless concealed in a locked boot; from You except where it has been concealed and not left Unattended or force has been used or threatened; where You have not taken all reasonable precautions to prevent the theft of the Insured Phone; where theft of the Insured Phone has not been reported to the Police and Your Airtime Provider, the latter within hours of the discovery of the theft. e) for Accidental Loss Where the Accidental Loss of the Insured Phone has not been reported to the Police and Your Airtime Provider, the latter within hours of the discovery of the theft or loss. f) for damage caused by: You deliberately damaging or neglecting the Insured Phone; not following the manufacturer s instructions. g) for repair or replacement costs for: loss caused by a manufacturer s defect or recall of the Insured Phone; loss, damage or theft of Smart or SIM cards unless installed in the Insured Phone and in Your possession; calls made after the Insured Phone has been stolen if a phone lock code has not been installed; any cosmetic damage to the Insured Phone; any repairs carried out by persons not authorised by Us; loss or damage recoverable under the terms of any other guarantee, warranty or insurance loss, damage or theft of a Smart or SIM card which has not been removed from the Insured Phone before the Insured Phone is sent off to be repaired. h) for the cost of repairing or replacing accessories, peripherals or electrical connections and any loss caused by their use unless stated on Your Statement of Insurance. i) for any mobile phone purchased from outside the United Kingdom.
