He was editor of The Dodgeville Chronicle in Dodgeville before joining The Country Today in He became the newspaper s editor in 1994 while working at The Country Today s home office in Eau Claire and retained that title after moving back to his family s century farm in He has received numerous writing and photography awards from the Wisconsin Newspaper Association and the North American Agricultural Journalists. Jim formerly served as president of the Wisconsin FFA Foundation and is currently secretary of the Upland Hills Health board of trustees in Dodgeville. He and his wife Anne, who have three grown children and currently raise grass-fed beef on their 40-acre Iowa County farm. Tonight, celebrate the beginning of your trip with a WELCOME DINNER at a local restaurant. (Dinner). Day 2, Monday October 9, 2017 Enjoy a full day of sightseeing beginning with an orientation TOUR OF BOSTON featuring sites of the Boston National Historical Park including Boston Common, the Old State House, Freedom Trail, and Beacon Hill, a stop at the OLD NORTH CHURCH (where Paul Revere was signaled of the departure of British troops to Lexington) and Faneuil Hall. Then we travel to JORDAN DAIRY FARM for lunch and tour. Meet farm owner, Randy Jordan, who has been in business since The farm produces on average 23,000 lbs. of milk daily and has made some incredible changes in the past 60 years. View the new free-stall barn that some people refer to as a country club for cows. While the barn was built to help save labor and increase cow comfort, the farm s main objective is to maintain a dairy operation using the most modern technological advancements. A highlight of the tour will be seeing the anaerobic digester, which mixes farm manure, food scraps and food-processing byproducts to produce biogas that runs a generator to produce 3.7 million kilowatts a year of electricity - enough power to run about 300 homes per year. It is the first plant of its kind in Massachusetts and the first to fully define a pathway for small farms to be permitted to use digesters. One cow produces enough electricity to power one average Massachusetts home and removes the equivalent greenhouse gases of two cars per cow from the atmosphere. Tonight we make a stop for dinner on your own at ASSEMBLY ROW, an ever-evolving neighborhood along the Mystic River, where folks gather to explore, dine, shop and play. Here, see the most photographed house in the state, the Wedding Cake House. Join your local guide for a TOUR OF KENNEBUNK AND KENNEBUNKPORT. Settled in the 1600's and a longtime ship-building mecca, sea captains built fine mansions, many of which are preserved today as lovely inns with antique charm. More than 100 years ago, this part of the Maine coast first became a resort destination but today it's "the place to be all year. Enjoy lunch on your own. We stop at STONEWALL KITCHEN to shop and sample some of its award-winning jams & jellies, mustards and condiments. Continuing on we visit the picture-perfect oceanfront VILLAGE OF QGUNQUIT, a small bustling resort town located along the southeastern seaboard of York County, Maine. Next, enjoy a scenic LOBSTER TOUR/CRUISE. Learn about New England s lobster industry and how lobsters are caught, and see it live!
