Guarantees for the 21st Century Throughout the era of Rethinking Construction, Constructing Excellence and Accelerating Change, Sarnafil researched and developed its range of guarantees into a package of options that can provide the building owner with a unique level of comprehensive cover. Drawing together experiences from our long roofing history and our comprehensive risk management system has enabled Sarnafil to develop a range of clear simple guarantee options. These options enable the client/specifier to select from one of the following options: The Sarnafil Extended Products Guarantee covers the entire roofing system from the deck upwards, or a combination of selected Sarnafil branded components to suit the project. The Sarnafil Extended Products Guarantee provides this integrated approach through unique partnership agreements with major manufacturers in the construction industry, providing a single point of responsibility for the roofing system. The Sarnafil Product Guarantee covers the primary waterproofing system including Sarnafil fasteners and adhesives. The Sarnafil Product Guarantee only covers those products sold directly by Sarnafil Ltd. Both options cover against damage by errors in our wind load calculation. The logic behind our guarantees is simple. When you buy a car you expect the manufacturer to guarantee the components included in its construction and for every component to have equal cover. 2

The plant operates to ISO 9001: 2000 and the environmental standard ISO the industry s most comprehensive guarantees Guarantees without compromise Roofs are complex systems, which combine different technologies from different sources. Our unique Extended Products Guarantee has been developed with this in mind: to minimise the potential disputes that can arise when manufacturers individual sub-component guarantees are in operation. Our in-house Technical Services Department carries out the critical wind uplift calculations for the roof, a service that is covered by our design insurance. The guarantee can provide coverage of ten, fifteen or twenty years, depending on the specification, and is signed by Sarnafil, the Sarnafil Registered Contractor, the principal contractor and the client. We believe that no other roofing manufacturer can offer the same choice of coverage or comparable peace-of-mind. Every Sarnafil guaranteed roof is the result of an ISO 9001:2000 accredited Quality Management System built around a series of milestones, each of which is a quality management audit in its own right. 4 For guaranteed peace-of-mind, trust Sarnafil As the only whole roof guarantee of it s kind, the Sarnafil Extended Products Guarantee leaves no loopholes or points for interpretation in the event of a failure. Beware not all roofing guarantees are the same Some guarantees cover only the membrane itself, others provide cover for all the roof components, albeit by separate manufacturers. With these guarantees, components beneath the membrane that fail, e.g. insulation, adhesive, fasteners, are not covered or if they are, there is no payment for replacing the membrane above them. You may also be offered a third type of guarantee in which the roofing contractor undertakes responsibility for the entire system. With this arrangement, it is critical to ensure that the roofer is indemnified against insolvency and catastrophic failure caused by a minor component like a faulty fastener otherwise you could face the same problems as with the individual component guarantee. The Sarnafil System Guarantees really do offer more. Only Sarnafil offers an insurance supported manufacturer s guarantee covering all the Sarnafil branded products used. This quite simply means that if the roof is accepted as having failed, as a result of any faulty Sarnafil component or inadequate specification by Sarnafil, we will take responsibility for the appropriate remedial actions. In the rare event of a valid claim being made, we ensure our guarantees are honoured as quickly and efficiently as possible, with the minimum of inconvenience to the client. Workmanship/Insolvency Sarnafil Registered Contractors provide workmanship assurance for the period of the Sarnafil Guarantee. Where a guarantee has a long duration, some clients are concerned about the long-term solvency of the roofing contractor. In these situations insolvency insurance may be requested. Under EU legislation that came into force in 2005, material manufacturers are precluded from offering cover for either the workmanship of the contractor, or against their insolvency, unless arranged through a FSA (Financial Services Authority) approved insurance broker. Sarnafil Ltd actively works to minimise the risk of failure through the Sarnafil Quality Management System, reducing the risk of our Registered Contractors handing over works that will later rely on a guarantee claim. Where a client requires additional peace of mind, Sarnafil offers a Final Inspection Certificate (a fee is payable to Sarnafil Ltd.) or we can introduce the client to an FSA approved provider of insolvency insurance (a fee is payable to the insurer). 4

6 Quality is part of our culture at Sarnafil. Our QMS provides a roadmap for working practices throughout the company. The Sarnafil Quality Management System The Sarnafil Quality Management System (QMS), takes each project from concept to completion with the aim of ensuring that client expectations are fulfilled and specifications are adhered to. Progression through the Sarnafil QMS takes a project through a number of checking stages to achieve specific milestones prior to the issue of the guarantee. 1 Concept Following consultation with the specifier, the Sarnafil Technical Adviser provides design assistance and technical advice followed by a detailed written specification. Sarnafil Technical Advisers also present a range of RIBA approved CPD Seminars. 2 Design The Sarnafil Technical Services Department checks and validates every specification and provides wind uplift calculations. Drainage calculations utilising Sarnafil rainwater outlets can be provided upon request. The Department also checks material orders against the original specification and provides telephone, fax and technical support to specifiers and contractors. 3 Logistics The Sarnafil Order and Logistics Department schedules material stocks in our large warehouse and co-ordinates deliveries to site. 4 Installation Installation can only be carried out by Sarnafil trained and registered contractors. Each of these companies is a specialist in the roofing industry and works in partnership with Sarnafil to deliver the completed roof. 5 Inspection The Sarnafil Applications Department, whose Field Technicians also provide training for the roofing installers, inspect projects during installation and have responsibility for inspecting the completed project for guarantee. 6 Guarantee The Sarnafil guarantee is issued following a final inspection that sees the Sarnafil Field Technician completing a 33 point check list.
