1 MSEA-SEIU Local 1989 s Legislative : 126th Legislature Find out whether your state legislators voted FOR or workers on 11 critical votes; hold them accountable on Election Day! Open this to see whether your State Senator and State Representative vote FOR or workers on 11 key pieces of legislation impacting the everyday lives of workers and families in the first and second sessions of the 126th Legislature spanning 2013 and : : Funding merit and longevity pay (LD 1843); : Overriding the Governor s budget veto and therefore authorizing state workers reclassifications and reallocations (LD 1858); : Helping the laid-off workers at Military Authority (LD 1837); MSEA-SEIU Retiree Director George Burgoyne, at right, thanks State Sen. Geoff Gratwick for helping to enact into law the legislation raising the one-time-only ad hoc or cash retirement cost of living adjustment (COLA) this year. Listening at left is our coalition partner Danna Hayes of the Women s Lobby. Sen. Gratwick scored a perfect 100 percent by voting workers on all 11 pieces of legislation we tracked in this Legislative. : Expanding access in to 70,000 rs (LD 1487); 2013: Passing the two-year Bipartisan State Budget restoring many of the harmful cuts demanded by Gov. LePage (LD 1509); 2013: Overriding the Governor s budget veto and therefore avoiding a shutdown of State Government (Also LD 1509); 2013: Restoring the ability of thousands of rs to access affordable mail-order prescription drugs (LD 171); 2013: Defending public workers rights against harmful right-towork-for-less legislation (LD 786 ought not to pass); Retiree victory! One-time-only COLA raised One critical piece of legislation we tracked but excluded from this was our successful legislation raising the one-time-only ad hoc or cash retiree cost of living adjustment (COLA) so that it is calculated on up to $30,000 of a retiree s pension base. The Legislature unanimously approved this legislation, LD 232, and it became law without the Governor s signature. As such, we saw no need to list each legislator s vote on it. 2013: Defending private and public workers rights against harmful right-to-work-for-less legislation (LD 831 ought not to pass); 2013: Expanding Care under the Affordable Care Act to provide healthcare to 70,000 rs who lack it (LD 1066); 2013: Raising the minimum wage incrementally to $9 an hour by 2016 (LD 611). Legislators who scored 100 percent on the consistently voted The 100 percent legislators showed real leadership. Be sure to thank them for advocating for Legislators who scored a zero (0) percent on the consistently voted Those legislators who scored between 100 and zero percent voted for families with some but not all of their votes. Absent indicates a legislator was absent for a Excused indicates a legislator was.
