3 Introduction Purpose of this guide is to provide examples of different ways to setup med ordering in a CPOE setting. Example shows from the end user s perspective what they will see, how it appears once ordered in POM, emar and EMR, and the pharmacy setup behind the scenes. Typical setup is usually a combination of options 2 and 3 Additional things to think about There are always exceptions If the strength or concentration of the drug is an integral part of the name, leave it in. Some examples are: Combination products where the strength is part of the name (i.e. Lortab/Vicodin/Norco, Zestoretic/Vaseretic, Sinemet, perphenazine/amitriptyline etc. Kits dispensed by each, Topicals (hydrocortisone 1% and 2%) dispensed by applications, Ophthalmics/otics (carbochol 0.01% and 1.5%) dispensed by drops or applications, MDIs (Flovent 44cmg, 110mcg, 220 mcg) administered by puffs, inhalations, or actuations, Injections listed by concentration (lidocaine 1%, 2%,4%) Do not include the strength when the trade name does not include it or it is understood.
