3 Results of the May TAC meeting Renaming thrusts for easier classification and assessment Original thrusts Challenging to organize and assess projects across thrusts Original thrusts included Advanced Manufacturing Enterprise (AME) Advanced Analysis (AA) Intelligent Machining (IM) Proposed new thrusts Break out sessions conducted to define new thrusts including scope, potential sub-thrusts (technology focus areas), and goals Proposed new thrusts include Design/Systems Engineering Digital Thread Future Factory Agile, Resilient Supply Cyber-Security (results from April 2015 DMDII workshop) Topics such as, digital thread, which were commonly identified as subthrusts (technology focus areas), were distributed accordingly D M D I I. 4 Overview of new thrusts and technology focus areas 1 2 Design Product Development Systems Engineering (AME/AA) Tech Focus Visualizing and describing the product/process design system define a formalized, digitally-enabled product/process development workflow based on rigorous systems engineering principles Tech Focus Big Data and Advanced Analytics for Product Design at the Speed of Market this sub-thrust focuses on the agility of the design process, providing analytical capabilities to analyze large data sets quickly, and efficiently evaluate the design tradespace to meet emerging market needs Tech Focus Design for the ilities improved design tools and processes which facilitate analysis and balance of critical requirements: affordability; producibility; supportability; etc Tech Focus Integration and feedback vertically in design and horizontally over life cycle including contextualization of data/data architecture develop digital thread capabilities which connect data, information, and knowledge across different domains of the lifecycle to support detailed design Tech Focus Automated Manufacturing Planning development of production plans, fabrication process engineering, virtual assembly planning, scheduling, supply chain design, qualification and certification procedures. Future Factory (IM) Tech Focus Interoperability (Vertical) operating System or standard communication protocols; standardized real-time PLC interface to enable dynamic control of manufacturing hardware via the digital thread Tech Focus Digital Thread (Horizontal) cross functional communication and information sharing; easily available data; sharing data across boundaries of product life cycle (design, engr., mfg., support) Tech Focus Plug and Play Electric, Air, Water, Communication, Qualification, Certification Tech Focus Agility manufacturing process flexibility and adaptability; processes and infrastructure quickly repurposed for new requirements Tech Focus Operations Visibility tools and analytical capabilities for visualization of production status, including visibility into schedule completion, condition-based monitoring of processes and equipment, etc. 3 4 Agile, Resilient Supply Chain (AME/AA) Tech Focus Supply Chain Visibility and Sourcing Support application of technologies to facilitate customer insight into the status of task execution Tech Focus Enterprise Integration digital thread technologies and methods for information and process integration, stressing secure and seamless information exchange and integration with suppliers and customers Tech Focus Business Intelligence for Resiliency Management more efficient and effective access to digital information will create numerous opportunities to ask new questions about risks and impacts and to develop the supply chain as part of the product design Cybersecurity in Manufacturing (AME/IM/AA) Tech Focus Cybersecurity technologies for the factory floor technologies to manage legacy manufacturing systems and production equipment (e.g. security layer for legacy systems); research into creating secure protocols for information across the digital thread (e.g. CAD, privacy, IP management, authentication, trustedness) Tech Focus Assessment tools and methods develop a testing environment for manufacturing cybersecurity (e.g. how to test protection for information systems such as work instructions and process documentation); research on modeling manufacturing cyber threats; develop tools that visualize and simulate an attack on a manufacturing organization in order to understand dependencies; threat analysis research for operational technologies with special focus on anomaly detection investigation Tech Focus Supply Chain technologies that could provide cybersecurity as a service for small and medium-sized manufacturing organizations (low cost and scalable); certification of suppliers for cyber secure practices; tools for creating and managing supplier certifications Tech Focus Collaboration build an industry consortium that coalesces industry needs and shares critical data; create a map of the policy landscape around cybersecurity and manufacturing; understand costs and benefits D M D I I.
