Olive, Lady Baillie [ ] an Anglo-American heiress, society hostess, and the last private owner of the iconic Leeds Castle. Lady Baillie s guest at Lowndes House included the Prince of Wales and Mrs. Simpson, Queen Maria of Romania, Alfonso XIII of Spain and Anthony Eden. She was a lover of the cinema and her guest list during the 1930s included Douglas Fairbanks [senior and junior], Charlie Chaplin and Errol Flynn. Post war she was on intimate terms with Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and with Princess Marina of Kent, both of whom have visited Lowndes House. Curiously, she was very shy and particularly disliked any personal publicity. It is thought that Lady Baillie continued as the owner of Lowndes House to her death in The house was acquired by Lord & Lady Forte in the late 1970s as their London family home.
