(NYSE: EFX) tday annunced a cybersecurity incident ptentially impacting apprximately 143 millin U.S. cnsumers. Criminals explited a U.S. website applicatin vulnerability t gain access t certain files. Based n the cmpany s investigatin, the unauthrized access ccurred frm mid-may thrugh July The cmpany has fund n evidence f unauthrized activity n Equifax s cre cnsumer r cmmercial credit reprting databases. The infrmatin accessed primarily includes names, Scial Security numbers, birth dates, addresses and, in sme instances, driver s license numbers. In additin, credit card numbers fr apprximately 209,000 U.S. cnsumers, and certain dispute dcuments with persnal identifying infrmatin fr apprximately 182,000 U.S. cnsumers, were accessed. As part f its investigatin f this applicatin vulnerability, Equifax als identified unauthrized access t limited persnal infrmatin fr certain UK and Canadian residents. Equifax will wrk with UK and Canadian regulatrs t determine apprpriate next steps. The cmpany has fund n evidence that persnal infrmatin f cnsumers in any ther cuntry has been impacted. Equifax discvered the unauthrized access n July 29 f this year and acted immediately t stp the intrusin. The cmpany prmptly engaged a leading, independent cybersecurity firm that has been cnducting a cmprehensive frensic review t determine the scpe f the intrusin, including the specific data impacted. Equifax als reprted the criminal access t law enfrcement and cntinues t wrk with authrities. While the cmpany s investigatin is substantially cmplete, it remains nging and is expected t be cmpleted in the cming weeks. This is clearly a disappinting event fr ur cmpany, and ne that strikes at the heart f wh we are and what we d. I aplgize t cnsumers and ur business custmers fr the cncern and frustratin this causes, said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Richard F. Smith. We pride urselves n being a leader in managing and prtecting data, and we are cnducting a thrugh review f ur verall security peratins. We als are fcused n cnsumer prtectin and have develped a cmprehensive prtfli f services t supprt all U.S. cnsumers, regardless f whether they were impacted by this incident. Equifax has established a dedicated website, t help cnsumers determine if their infrmatin has been ptentially impacted and t sign up fr credit file mnitring and identity theft prtectin. The ffering, called TrustedID Premier, includes 3- Bureau credit mnitring f Equifax, Experian and TransUnin credit reprts; cpies f Equifax credit reprts; the ability t lck and unlck Equifax credit reprts; identity theft insurance; and Internet scanning fr Scial Security numbers - all cmplimentary t U.S. cnsumers fr ne year. The website als prvides additinal infrmatin n steps cnsumers can take t prtect their persnal infrmatin. Equifax recmmends that cnsumers with additinal questins visit r cntact a dedicated call center at , which the cmpany set up t assist cnsumers. The call center is pen every day (including weekends) frm 7:00 a.m. - 1:00 a.m. Eastern time.

6 In additin t the website, Equifax will send direct mail ntices t cnsumers whse credit card numbers r dispute dcuments with persnal identifying infrmatin were impacted. Equifax als is in the prcess f cntacting U.S. state and federal regulatrs and has sent written ntificatins t all U.S. state attrneys general, which includes Equifax cntact infrmatin fr regulatr inquiries.
