Understanding the application process so far and what happens next. What decisions still need to be made? Student Finance.

Understanding the application process so far and what happens next.

Personal Details Additional Information Education Choices Employment Personal Statement Reference Submission Offers

DO YOU NEED TO GO? NO

GAP YEAR? - Leave your Application live so you have options. - On results day ask the university to defer your entry until September Enjoy your gap year without the pressure of having to complete an Application. - If you choose not to go, reject place in August 2018.

EMPLOYMENT/TRAINING? - Again, leave your Application live so you have options. - Register with apprenticeships.gov.uk website - On results day if you choose not to go, reject place and start work in September 2017.

UCAS TRACK is now open - Student have their personal ID number and passwords. - All offers will appear on here. - UCAS will also you every time there is an update.

OFFERS Most universities make offers by 31 st March (you must reply by 4 th May)

TYPES OF OFFERS CONDITIONAL will be dependent on you achieving certain grades. UNCONDITIONAL - they want you, you have already met entry requirements. To accept an unconditional offer you must make this your first choice. YOU ARE COMMITTING TO GOING TO THAT UNIVERSITY

TYPES OF OFFERS UNSUCCESSFUL APPLICATION the university has decided not to offer a place, sometimes they will give a reason via Track or if you contact them. WITHDRAWN APPLICATION - a course can be withdrawn by you or the university. The reason will show up in Track; maybe you didn t reply to a letter or missed an interview.

OFFERS: READ THE SMALL PRINT INTERVIEW WITH ME!

REPLYING TO OFFERS: FIRM ACCEPTANCE INSURANCE ACCEPTANCE DECLINE

KEY DATES: Last Decision received on or before Means you reply by 31 st March th May th May th June th June nd June th July th July th June late applications processed through Clearing. 4 th July last date to apply through Extra.

Whilst you are waiting to reply: Figure out the next steps - read the UCAS advice and watch the How-to guide video online. Get to know the universities a bit better use social media and attend applicant days. Suss out student blogs gather the opinions of students currently studying there.

YOUR INSURANCE CHOICE MUST BE A LOWER OFFER THAN YOUR FIRM (remember it is your back up plan)

DO YOU NEED AN INSURANCE CHOICE? If you only want to go to one university then reject the others and make the one you wish to attend your conditional firm. DO NOT TAKE UP SOMEBODY S PLACE BY HAVING AN INSURANCE CHOICE THAT IS HIGHER THAN YOUR FIRST CHOICE

UCAS EXTRA? - Opens on 25 th February FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE APPLIED AND HAVE HAD 5 REJECTIONS, OR HAVE REJECTED ALL OF THE OFFERS THEY HAVE RECEIVED.

RESULTS DAY: If you do not meet entry to your firm or insurance choice you will need to look at which courses still have vacancies through Clearing.

ASK YOURSELF: - ARE YOU GOING TO PUT THE WORK IN? - ARE YOU ACTUALLY CAPABLE OF THE RESULT YOU ARE AIMING FOR? - WILL YOU MAKE A 8 12% IMPROVEMENT AT AS, OTHERWISE IS IT WORTH IT? - CAN YOU COPE WITH THE EXTRA WORK LOAD? BE REALISTIC

What decisions still need to be made?

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO: Research accommodation available at each of the universities you have applied to. Most allocate on a random basis, some will only offer you their accommodation if they are your firm choice. When you make choices the universities SHOULD contact you regarding accommodation. If they don t, you need to contact them. Check the websites.

What type? University owned or private rent? Single or shared? En-suite or shared bathroom? Cost? What does it include? Catered/Non Catered? On Campus/Off campus? Look at a map of where it is? Car parking? Is it free?
