1 Emerging Trends in Entrepreneurship ISBN Transformation From Self Help Groups To Social Entrepreneurs: A Descriptive Study Jayasree Das Assistant professor, THK JAIN College, Kolkata; guest lecturer, Harimohon Ghose College, Kolkata; Address: 55-G, Tarak Pramanick Road Kolkata ; -id jayasreedas128@gmail.com; ph Abstract SHG can now easily access group capital at doorstep and repay it conveniently with other group members.dsc are available to serve the needs of customers. The group members only need to satisfy underwriting criteria presented by the bank for being eligible for the loan. The loan gets credited to the savings account and one can withdraw the amount at ones convenience. There is only one restriction that a borrower can have money under any one of the scheme outstanding at any given point in time. This study focuses on the fact that whether the objective for which the loan is being disbursed is being fulfilled or not or whether the SHG are using it for meeting their personal needs. This paper also studies the financial and economical performance of the SHG and suggest that if sustainability in their performance can be attended to then SHG members can be transformed to social entrepreneurs which in the long run will give sustainability to their products, culture and tradition and be beneficial in both micro and macro level.
